So I lost my debit card. I was told it would cost me $5 to replace it. I said screw it and no thanks. I am debating switching. Is this common? I thought it was courtesy to send out a replacement card? I complained and said great customer service because she wrote down my complaint. But WTF? $5 to use their card? Am I crazy?

I've lost debit cards or had my wallet stolen a few times. Never paid a replacement fee. I was asked to pay a $5 replacement fee for a medical pre-tax benefits card.

Said "screw that" and my husband and I just share his. (Luckily we had the two.)

I would stop into a BofA branch if I were you. Speak to someone there and see if they'll set you up w/ a free replacement.

I quit BOA after they slashed my credit limit in 08 after raising it many many times without me asking.

BoA, alongside Wells Fargo and most commercial airlines, have turned "nickel & diming" into an art form

My stupid bank wanted to charge me a fee for a new debit card when I changed my name when I got married. I talked to someone who agreed to waive the fee for me, but I still thought it was ridiculous.

Take your money to a different bank because they obviously dont value you as a customer. The challenge is finding one thats less evil (although BofA sets the bar pretty low). I have an account with Centennial Bank and Trust... pays 2% on checking. They pay ME to give them access to my money, which is the way it should be.

I've been with Chase for a long time.... no fee's

I had an acct. with Bank of the west and they wanted to charge me $3 for a cashiers check, I told them to go ahead and make the check but for the entire balance, the teller then proceeds to tell me that they can cut me 1 free check this time only.... I told her, don't do me any favors, I'll pay the $3 and give me all my money

I would have taken my check for the entire balance for free....why let them have your $3

I hear about these places often, but I sadly don't have one in our town. I sure want to get in with one.

I use BB&T, and one time we had our cards compromised on a trip. Thankfully BB&T is a regional bank and they had one in the state we were visiting. They issued temp replacement debit cards for us for free, and we got new ones in the mail.

They may charge for lost cards, but they didn't charge for my card that was compromised.

However, they do charge $5 per check if you need one looked up and $25 a hour in labor if you don't remember when you wrote it.
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you're stupid and make bad choices.
