  • What's your net worth?

I'm going to put a couple of polls up here and I'm curious if people will answer.

Starting with net worth. I realize that people here are ALL outliers otherwise you wouldn't be on a saving board.

Let's do the definition of net worth. Value of home. Value of cars. Cost of mortgage or loans on cars. No personal belongings. But I'm including cars because it can be sold and some cars are worth quite a bit. And boats or RVs . Those can be hefty.

We've had this conversation multiple times but can you please give us your definition of net worth so that everyone is answering in the same way.

Some people include their homes, some don't.
Some people include their cars, some don't.
Some people include other personal belongings, some don't.

I'd suggest a very simple formula that just includes financial assets (savings, checking, stocks, bonds, mutual funds) and the market value of your home minus any outstanding mortgage. Also subtract any other debts. Don't bother with car, jewelry, artwork, furniture, etc. unless it is of major value (you have a 150K restored antique car, for example).

I can't answer off the top of my head as I need to update my spreadsheet and come up with a reasonable guess of my home's value.

Hmmm, no less than zero option. So you won't have a sense of how many people are here struggling to get to a point where they're building net worth rather than digging out of endless debt.

Maybe she got brainwashed by that guy that thinks everyone makes at least $50k, can easily save $2k/month and retirement health coverage is easy to estimate?

I hate to say this but these threads are pointless. Some of us will not include homes in net worth...others will. These threads never end well. Ticking time bomb.

Okay. I voted. Including financial assets and the house but nothing else we are a bit over $1 million.

I just supplied the lone vote for the $750k to $1 million range.

Our net worth exceeded $900k for the first time on Friday. That is using a conservative estimate for our home.

Do they exist anymore? (Not just that the Food Stamp Program has been renamed to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, but do they actually still issue stamps?)

                          postage stamps?
                          They can be quite valuable...
