  • Social Security Longevity

How much longer do you think social security will be around? Surely something will be in place when I'm old. There are way too many lazy hipsters in my generation for there not to be some kind of safety net. Ha.

    Nobody can answer that question.
My suggestion would be, don't count on it. Consider it a little extra bonus in retirement if you get it.

For anyone nearing retirement, I think it's going to be there, but who knows 20,30, 40 years from now?
Complete elimination of it would be political suicide for whoever tried that. I feel like we are more likely to see some significant modifications to the program.

it reads right on the statement that there will be a shortfall in 2033 and that only 77% of the payouts can be made

I'm 42, and I've been plugging 75% of what the SSA website calculates into my retirement spread sheet. That could be close, that could be high. It probably not low, or way high.
