My IRA is all in the same indexed mutual fund & the quarterly dividends are reinvested. I'm over 70 1/2 so I'm taking RMDs. I used dollar cost averaging when buying shares & use the same strategy by taking quarterly RMDs. Which is better . . . just before or just after dividends are paid?

My clients have RMDs in cash 3 years before they need them. Quarter to quarter looks risky to me.

It doesn't matter. You are simply trading share value for more shares. It's happening inside a tax-deferred account, so does not affect you.Originally posted by jarhtmd View PostMy IRA is all in the same indexed mutual fund & the quarterly dividends are reinvested.
