  • Do you have health insurance?

With it being the last day to sign up for the affordable care act, I was wondering if everyone here has health insurance and where they get their health insurance from? I ended up getting mine through the affordable care act which was a blessing for me because I had pre existing conditions that made it impossible for me to get it before the law came into affect. I know many who have health insurance through their companies and a few that pay for it on their own.

If you don't have health insurance, why have you decided to go without it?

I have insurance through my job.

I have one employee who does not have coverage and has no intention of getting it. She said she looked into getting it with ACA and it was over $800/month which she can't afford. I'm not sure how much it would be through our office plan but she's chosen not to, probably due to cost.

I get health insurance through my employer - the annual cost for a high deductible ($3k) plan for 3 people is $3300. My employer contributes $1500 to my HSA.

We have insurance for me, DD and DH through his job. We pay 300 a month. Deductible is 2000 per person. Not having it isn't an option. Our annual health care expenses without insurance would exceed our combined gross income.

I have Tricare right now as a military retiree. No monthly cost. $300 deductible for my whole family. Great coverage except the Tricare network is not robust. Can't complain. When I turn 65, it transitions to Tricare for life and is a free Medicare supplemental insurance. Covers all costs that Medicare does not. Same $300 deductible. Covers my wife and I as long as we are alive.

We have health care through hubby's work, cost is about $320 per month (pretax). If I had to get my own insurance, going through the exchange (just me) a very similar plan (within $200 on deductible/copay) would be about $180 per month (no subsidies).

We have always had health insurance. My job provided 100% insurance for the whole family at no cost to me. I had it for over 16 years.

I am now a SAHM and my husband's insurance isn't nearly as good and it cost us about $600/mo. I realize that is lower than many and I am thankful we have it, but I miss having it at no cost.

Through my employer. Planning on retiring in 2 years, at which point I'll have to buy it directly.

Yes, we have health and dental insurance through my husband's employer, the US Army. We only pay premiums for dental for myself and our daughters.

My job offers health insurance for my wife and I. We have to contribute from my check but it's less than half what it would cost on our own.

I do. Through my employer. A very good one. $2060 per month for entire famly. My employer pays 75% of the premium.

So far it has paid for everything I ever had done and I can see any specialist without referral. I only had to pay co-pays.

Even though I was completely healthy and did not have any risk factors, I ended up with a very difficult pregnancy (fluke of nature kind of thing, impossible to predict) where surgical intervention was needed to help the baby.

So healthy, young, no risk factors, and yet ended up with 90K of medical bills that was completely unpredictable. This is where good insurance really matters. They covered everything but my $20 co-pays.

So really, if you think that you are young and have a healthy lifestyle and stellar physicals, does not mean that 90K of medical bills cant happen to you.

Having the right and the best health care insurance is difficult. In order not to get confused, you need to decide which the best is by doing your research thoroughly. The first step to take includes checking out the credentials and also their past performances of the very company you are considering.
