It depends. Most IRAs are due April 15th. ROTHs and Traditional IRAs.

When it comes to a 401k, you have to fund that during the calendar year.

Employer plan contributions (401k, 403b, 457, Simple IRA) are made via payroll and get reported on your W-2. Therefore, contributions for 2013 are made from 2013 paychecks. If it is a 2014 paycheck, it is a 2014 contribution. Make sense?

SEP Ira contributions are due April 15th, or the due date of a filed extension.
