I just have one major credit card, which I'm getting better and better at paying off immediately. I get 1% cash back on everything, 5% in certain categories quarterly -- which are awesome because they always make sense for the time of year. For example, last quarter's were restaurants, hotels, and theme parks, perfect for vacation season, where I so happens to take advantage of by chance. This quarter it's departments stores, Amazon, etc, perfect for gift shopping. As I'm getting better each month at maintaining my credit card, I'm really beginning to use it as a means of taking advantage of those points while not staying in credit.

Other than that, I only have another credit account (which I don't even have a physical card anymore, I did at one point but got rid of it and never got a new one) that is used as a backup for if I ever need to overdraft (also very uncommon for me anymore), directly tied to my checking account.

This was touted in a newsletter...

"<www.LowCards.com>, is a site that simplifies the confusion of shopping for credit cards. It is a
free, independent website that helps consumers easily compare credit cards in a variety of categories such as lowest rates, rewards, rebates, balance transfers and lowest introductory rates. It also gives an unbiased ranking and review for each card."

I've had the same one credit card from my bank that I've had since turning 18. I don't care that I get piddly cash rewards from it--I'm quite proud of this fact.

I have 2 credit cards - Capital One rewards and a Citibank rewards. The Cap One is a visa and the Citi is a MasterCard. I typically only use the Capital One card and pretty much use it for all purchases (groceries, gasoline, personal items, etc.) to earn rewards which I either use for travel or I can get cash back. I do pay off the balance every month. The Citi card I use for business travel and expenses only and also pay off completely each month (when used) as I get reimbursed by my employer.

            Hi all -

I have two active, Citi and Discover. Citi gives you the point program called "easy deals" where you get some point if you purchase with Citi card. I wasn't even aware of this program and realized I have a few thousands points (!) - and it is a point to a dollar, so I browsed through what kind of deals they had, but not really something I was interested in... Plus you just get some point to get discount, but you sill have to pay a big portions. I used a few restaurants coupons, which was great, but in majority, you can only have one coupon for one restaurant, so once you use it, that's it... I have this card for over 10 years, so for the sake of my credit history, I keep it, but nothing really impressive in my opinion.

Discover is I got very recently for 0% deal. Their cash back system is a lot better, you can use as a cash (has to be over $100), or you can use it with amazon.com or some online shops. I tried to redeem some small changes with amazon, but somehow I messed up and was not able to apply it... But I think Discover is not bad.

            Best,
            Kyoko

Currently looking at switching to CapOne's "Quicksilver Cash Rewards Visa", which seems to have replaced my current card in their line-up -- it earns a flat 1.5% on everything, plus currently has a $100 signup bonus).
I love it when banks/financial institutions actually do customer service right!

Capital One is replacing the offering for my current card (referenced above) with their new "Quicksilver" version (which IMO actually seems better--no delay in getting the extra .5% cash back)... what I currently have is no longer available. Well, I just received a letter in the mail stating that effective next month, they are actually going to AUTOMATICALLY transition my existing card to become this new "Quicksilver" version, as opposed to simply leaving me to my devices and grandfathering my current card into the unknown future. A small convenience, but I will no longer need to mess with taking care of it myself, which I very much appreciate. Bravo, CapOne.

                    I have & use:

Target Redcard debit card - save 5% on all purchases there. Mostly groceries & small house things.

Chase Freedom card - for the cash back, typically used whenever I buy something ~$100+, paid off monthly.

Costco Amex - used AT Costco.

Have, don't really use except maybe once or twice a year, just to make sure they keep it open - Some other Visa, which I've had for many years and has a high credit limit. I just keep it open to benefit my credit score.

My bank has a checking account which gets me 3.25% APY on my balance up to 25,000 or 30,000 and one of the requirements is using my debit card 15 times a month as "credit." Recently, this has translated to just getting smaller amounts of gas more frequently, rather than waiting for the low gas light and filling up once a month. (Gas station is on my route home from work, so I'm not driving out of my way for it.)
