life ins. Is not necessarily a bad thing. I wouldnt consider it an investment though, even if theres a cash surrender value. but everyones situation is different....I know businesses that have life ins policies on all the owners. In the event of a partner death, his pownership can be paid out with less disruption to the business.

You can't fault him for that too much. If you walk onto a car lot, of course the salesperson is going to point out the merits of the cars s/he has for sale. S/he will not be pointing out other things you might do with the money. S/he will not evaluate whether or not you even need a car. S/he is there to sell cars, period.

Your "financial advisor" sells life insurance. He is not a CFP (Certified Financial Planner). He is not there to evaluate your finances and make recommendations. He is not licensed to sell securities. He is licensed to sell life insurance, period. He can sell investments wrapped inside of life insurance because it is an insurance product. So he will suggest that product to you not because it is the best way to invest your money, but simply because it is a product which he sells.

If you need life insurance, buy some term insurance.
