If you're spending your time in hotels sitting around and not doing much of anything, taking online surveys could be a slightly more productive use of time. At best, the average person taking surveys can earn a little extra pocket money every few months. If you enjoy sharing your opinion, it can be worth taking the time to do it. If you happen to be in an in demand demographic, like disneysteve who mentions taking medical surveys, you can make more significant amounts of money. If you have some free time, I'd suggest giving surveys a try to see if you think they're worth it.

I used to work for a market research company, and I signed up for the survey site where we ran our online surveys to see what the user experience was like. I go through phases where I take surveys and phases where I don't. I'm currently in a phase where I don't.

If you want to earn significant amounts of money online, the trick is figuring out how to utilize some skill that you have and others don't. General surveys don't pay much because almost anyone can take them with very little effort.

Well, I blog, and for the last 2 years I've taken part in a business plan competition with the intention of launching the companies. Last year's is stalled due to some tech transfer issues with a certain university. The other is an app focused on student loan debt. It's in development.

I work full time, am getting my MBA full time so I don't have a side job right now, but I have been working on building income streams. Currently I make $230 a month donating plasma, $550 from renting out the otherside of my duplex, $50-60 a month from a couple candy vending machines, $15-30 a month in CC rewards, and am building a blog to monetize.. still trying to build it up more, but I'm time limited

Not for the faint of heart

What I do isn't for everyone, but I currently have 2 FT jobs (1st job offers great flexibility to complete 40 hours in a schedule that I choose; 2nd job is an overnight front desk associate with Tuesday and Wednesday OFF each week). Also, I run a small career services firm where I have consultants work with clients on resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn and social media makeovers, and free consultation on various topics. LUCKILY, I have a competent and trustworthy partner who manages the day-to-day operations and administrative work of the small firm where I am merely the approval for all work completed, founder and visionary. #nosleep #humanzombie

I am 29 y/o without any children or a girlfriend, so I am taking the next 2-3 years to pay-off Sallie Mae and start at "0." I do not have any credit card debt, no car (I live in greater NYC) and the distance between my 1st job, 2nd job and my job is only 3-5 minutes from each other (10 minute train ride to everything).

The reason I chose 2 jobs is the "security" of getting "guaranteed" income each week, but being an entrepreneur offers you much more intellectual freedom and creativity as well as the chance to leverage the "sky is the limit" mentality. There is a cap with regular shift jobs, but if you are looking for a creative, passionate outlet and you are darn good at what you do, being an entrepreneur can be one of the most liberating and, albeit, challenging feelings at the same time. You know what they say - "there is a thin line between love and hate."

Create the life you are looking for and don't look back!
