      Re: Millionaires

I say Millionaire in the making if we continue to live frugal and save We are almost at the half-way point if you include our house equity in our network. If not, we have a long long way to go.

Even today when I try to talk to my parents about money, they are very secretive about everything. I've never asked about dollar figures as I can accept that it's none of my business. However, I would like to hear some of their tricks or what they found worked for them in the past. One thing though...I will always keep the lines of communication open with my children so we can talk the importance of money. I've already opened bank accounts for them and they're only 2 and 4 years old.
You find, like I've found, that with secretive parents the fun is just beginning. Just wait until you have to settle their estate. Then it becomes your business, sigh. Please encourage them to at least be organized, have a will (we had a will, whew@!) and a list of their assets. If they put the list in a bank safe deposit box at least then the search is to find the key to the box.

My Dad is. He deserves to be because he had a very hard life when he was younger, and worked hard for everything that he has. I am so proud of him!

My 99 year old aunt is a multi millionaire. Again, struggled, worked hard, saved, saved, saved and made smart money moves. Nothing was ever handed to her either!

If we do include the equity in our house, we are almost halfway there. I've been told that the second half is FAR easier than the first!

I SO hope that your Aunt has made good plans for the next generation, hubbies great aunt left money to her nieces/nephews who had NO clue about money and it ruined the families relationships and with the exeception of one uncle the money is gone, spent in 4 years and they're in debt again :eek

No not even close but thank God we're doing really good with what we do have. We're not even aiming for a certain amount. We want to enjoy our sons and our soon to be daughter-in-laws and our grandchildren one day. We're in the process of doing our living trust, etc.

I really admired Suze Orman for what she said the other night on her Saturday night show about her not trying to invest her money now to make more and more money but that she has placed her money in municipal bonds and just wants to live life to the fullest. Some people never get enough and save and save and save and invest, invest, and invest. Take some time to enjoy some of it I feel!

Baselle, I do believe that my parents are organized. Just a week ago, mom mentioned that they were updating their will. She also told me what bank accounts they deal with and where their safety deposit box is. Only prob is.....she lost the key. I told her she better hurry up and get looking for it.

after reading all the posts in this thread... i see that those WHO ARE Millionares have worked VERY HARD FOR IT... That's stupid!!!

What is the point of working VERY hard in life if by the time you get to enjoy your money YOU ARE OLD or have Stress related Health problems...!!!

I would LOVE to work only at most 8 hrs a day... we have 2 contractors at the office that can easily make $100k a year, and they only 3.5 days a week... no OT... they negotiated to have Wed's off so they can go golf

I hope to have a family one day, and if I have to work VERY HARD to make ends meet... then I have failed as a parent.

guys, being a millionare only makes things harder on you... you have to worry about NEW things

                  1) ransoms
                  2) insurances on stuff
                  3) financial problems
                  4) "long lost" relatives that "need help" out of nowhere.

Gee, thanks! I did work very hard. Had a great time, retired at 40, work as consultant when and if I want, as does DH. I don't waste money on stuff, so no added insurance, and I don't have financial problems. I do make mistakes. And relatives have never been lost, they've always been right there with me needing help, whether I had to give or not!

                            Re: Millionaires

Well maybe you think I am old, but I don't. I don't have any money related stress either. As a matter of fact, I have never been sick. I have never been to a doctor but once. I have not worked in over 15 years.
I like having money, but I don't consider my self rich. But it is a wonderful feeling to know that I won't ever have to worry about paying a bill again. So, JPW. I have to disagree with you.
I do agree about leaving money to people that don't know how to handle it. I have some accounts set up for my granddaugters that they can not touch until they are 35. If by then, they cannot handle money, I will not leave them anything more.

JPWRana...I disagree with you as well. First of all, whether you have money or not does not make you a better parent.
My parents are pushing 70 and they have worked hard all of their life to be where they are today. Both are very healthy and because they have money, they can pick up and take trips whenever they want too. They have no worries and they know that they will be secure when they retire. Yes..both are still working but it's only because they choose too.
I think that would be a dream of many to only work 8 hours a day and 3.5 days a week. I think that's a rarity.
                              And Ima.....you're not old girlfriend

Stupid? Then why are you here?
I too have to disagree with you...I don't think the people who frequent this board are the types who would flash their money around (thus attracting ransomers), buy lots of new things (thus requiring insurance), let money come between them and their loved ones, and make it known that they have lots of disposable cash. This board tends to attract more of the "millionaire next door" crowd. I agree with Ima Saver, financial security (whether it be $10k or $10 million) means living your life and not worrying day to day about money. I think we can all agree that is an admirable goal, no matter the amount we assign to it...
we are all here for the same reason - why would you bash those who have worked hard to achieve their dreams? We should be applauding their efforts and looking to them for great ideas. Kudos to the millionaires!
