I think many are scared of them because they don't know how credit works and all they know is how it can get them into trouble financially. I was this way, I am 24 now and just got my first credit card. I now realize how important credit is and I wish I had gotten one sooner. General rule: pay on time or before so you have no or very low interest rates.

credit cards can be a great tool if you know how to use them.

i have 4 credit cards that i use regularly, and i'm currently churning an additional 5 right now. those 5 will net 375,000 airlines miles/points that i can use for international travel. i usually take one big (2.5-3.5 week) trip abroad per year and have never had to pay for a ticket.

so long as you pay off the balance every month (i do, and sometimes pay them off in even shorter increments - even on a daily basis), you can benefit greatly from rewards and other insurance and protections that they offer. example: i bought my girlfriend a laptop a couple months ago, last week she accidentally dropped it on the coffee table and the screen cracked, three days later AMEX refunded me the purchase price.

i dont pay attention to interest rates, cash advance rates, or anything because they never come into effect.

just manage your cash flow responsibly. if you use them like debit cards you'll be fine. it's not as scary as it seems.

As many people said in this forum, credit card is essential in this society. In order to buy the house or cars (Building the credit score) or even making reservation of air flight, credit card is very useful. Good or bad is depending on how we use it. We need to use credit card with respect. Just too many people abusing the credit card so that's why many people are in trouble. It is absolutely their fault to be in that situation since they abuse the power of credit card in my opinion (or not educated enough to use them wisely).

Why are some so against credit cards

What is perhaps the most important credit card benefit is your protection against unauthorized and fraudulent purchases. Over the years, I can’t even count the number of times a dispute has saved me (many!). Below we will go over some very important things you need to know about disputing a credit card charge.

Frankhoward, your remark about the fraudulent purchases is a myth. Check out this link to Visa's guidelines on debit card/check card.

Visa has a Zero Liability Policy for fraud and requires their member banks to afford the same protections on both credit cards and debit cards.

Ummmm, wasn't Frankhoward mentioning protections with a credit card? Your link refers to debit cards, which ain't close to the same thing. Credit cards are much much better in terms of protection, which is why I never use debit cards.

I haven't used a credit card in years and have no intention to. I use a debit card for everything including travel for work. I choose not to even assoiciate my self with a credit card. Never had an issue with using my debit card

I am pointing out that debit cards and credit cards have the same protections against fraud. It is a common myth that credit cards are superior. I'm not saying that credit cards are not okay to use if managed well, I am just saying that Visa regulations require debit cards to have the same protections.

CC are easy to manage and deal with you get into an argument with a merchant.

CC are like guns. In the right hands they are okay, in other people's hands not so much. Accept that some people can use them and others cannot.

For some people they cannot fathom that they are spending money if it's a plastic card.
