I got 24 hour fitness membership through Costco. Price was $249 per 2 years ($10.38 per month). 24 hour fitness is everywhere and I think it is pretty good deal...

I'm about $25.00 a month with 24 hour fitness, guaranteed for life, and I've been doing it over 10 years?

I agree exercising without a gym is a very good option, but do whatever fits your lifestyle and keeps you exercising.

Make use of free gym passes to help you decide and squeeze in a few free workouts.

I work out at home, much cheaper and easier to stick with in the long run. I have lost over 20lbs using programs like P90X and Insanity.

I pay $29 per year for 24-hour fitness -- so that's approx $2.42/month. It's called All club sport access or something like that, where I paid up front $700 for 3 years, with yearly renewal of $29 after that.

I would say it's only worth it to those who have access to 24-hr fitness near them and plan on utilizing the gym very often, for a long time. I've had this plan since 2005, so I've already gotten a lot out of it.

Wow... I'm paying $49/month. However, there's not much else comparable to me within driving distance. It's a new (2 years) facility, and has a decent pool, which is what I originally joined for.

We do have a 24hr place near us, but no pool, no showers, etc. It is convenient to be able to go workout and shower either on the way out to work/clients or on the way home.

As for using it, I started last March, and went swimming a couple times per month, then stopped in Nov. Almost quit, but have started going on the treadmills 2-3 times per week since December, and feel I'm getting my money's worth now.

it really depends where you live. 24 hour fitness used to have good prices when they were trying to expand around 10 -15 years ago. If you had membership at that time, you lock into a $600 3 year contract, but after that, membership is $20/year for life. So that's basically what I pay for the gym nowadays. There was a long period of 2-3 years where I stopped going completely, but I always paid the membership because once I cancelled it, I'd be stuck with normal gym rates. As long as 24 hour fitness is around and as long as they don't try to weasel their way out of the contract, I'll always pay for it.

But nowadays, there's so much demand, you'll basically have to pay $30-40 a month or something like that for membership. No freebies anymore

                -------

There is a method that I discovered (and used once) to get free gym membership. I utilized it during the summer while I was attending summer school. Summer school is broken down into 2 sessions, I signed up and went to class for one. Since I wasn't signed up for the 2nd session, I couldn't use the college gym then. So what I did was I signed up for a class, registered my student id so it showed that I was enrolled in a class, then dropped the class early enough so there wasn't any penalties. Not exactly ethical I guess, but I was a full time student and did get free student gym access for that month or month half. Assuming your school doesn't have some sort of computerized ID checkin at the gym, you should be able to do the same during regular semesters.

Whopping $71/month for me to use the YMCA by my house. No where is cheap where I live. I've looked and it's the cheapest option. I'd love to be back at 24 hour fitness in CA which was $99/year renewal and great gyms. Now it sucks. But with the weather being bad I don't feel like I have any other choice.

I go to the gym 5-7 days a week. I take a class M-F and weekends I usually go to swim or do yoga for an hour. I consider it investing in my health and well being.
