I am considering buying a New in Box nook black and white for $100. It was a gift and they got two for christmas. Should I do it? I am debating because I do read a lot but I usually do libraries. I haven't bought a book for myself in years. Is this a crazy item to buy? My DH has been trying to buy me one for years, but I refused because of price. But I was thinking my price point has always been $99.

I think the payment option that you have presented actually looks OK. And since you have already made your mind about the car, I see no point in persuading you.
Well, come to think of it, you will actually find a lot of good uses for the nook. So you will still find this one a worthy purchase.

kindle=best gift i ever got. i read about 5 times as much.
if you want to limit yourself to things out of copyright, or new books that are relatively easy to find online if one cares to do so(just like mp3's-morality aside), you can read totally for free.
get an app that converts pdf's to azw, the kindle format. apps are free and then you can read anything in pdf format.
$100? if you can afford it, its a no brainer.

I had a hard time switching over from CDs to an iPod. But once I made the switch I would never go back. I imagine having a Kindle or a Nook is about the same experience, though I haven't gotten mine yet. It's probably just a matter of time. And e-books are cheaper, and take up zero space in your home. Seems like a no-brainer to me. : ) Happy reading!

I have been kind of surprised by the frugal backlash to the nook. For the long run, I think the frugal crowd will embrace it. I like the simplicity of being able to have thousands of books in a gadget the size of a small paperback. Same reason I love my MP3 player (tons of songs in a very small gadget).
Anyway, there are tons of free book options out there. Or low-priced. Or borrow ebooks from the library, etc., etc.
Once you go ebook, why would you go back???

We just did a library tour with cub scouts on Tuesday. Found out that my local library now offers eBook and Audiobook downloads from their web site. She specifically mentioned that they support the Nook but not Kindle yet. Check your library.
