You can travel to Jamaica inexpensively; it doesn't have to cost $3,000.
You may have to stay in a modest hotel/resort, instead of the luxury resort where your friend is getting married, but I would go and just stay somewhere more affordable.
Honestly, everyone will understand, with the economy being what it is.
    Have fun at the wedding!

Thanks LandlordGreg, we have definitely looked at some options to cut costs. Williamsrobby, my DW will make sure we stay on budget

Sorry for delayed response, I've been out of town and not checking my email.

Very good advice. I have often attended professional conferences, weddings and other events that were being held at some costly venue and we just stayed elsewhere. Rather than booking the "special convention rate" of $200/night, we stayed at a nearby Days Inn for $59/night, for example. You could likely do the same thing in Jamaica.

        * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
        * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

Sounds like a nice vacation. Were you planning one already?

We had planned to take a vacation but had not made any specific arrangements for it yet.
