Geez, I rarely think this way, but it feels like this year my DH and I are really being pressured with all these tax credits and rebates to further winterize our house.
We got the heat pumps $5k, but $2k tax credit back. So $3k for a system that wasn't working, and is necessary to sell our home and we get to be warm for the winter and save money while heating.
Now we're getting quotes to blow in more insulation, we had some done on different walls, but there is a 75% rebate back from our natural gas heating company.
Geez 25% for a chance to save more money in the long run? We pay $500-600/month in the winter to heat to 55, I'd pay that much to heat to 68 possibly this winter. Plus our electric bills are $300-400/month on top of that.
Our neighbors who heat to 68 currently pay a lot more than us. Most neighbors tell us they pay over $1k month heating bills alone. Ouch.
I wonder if this is what is stimulating the economy? These deals that are so hard to turn down.
