  • Renting space for a business

Okay so we're trying to figure out how much it will cost to rent out space for my DH's business. We are doing it long distance as well because we want to relocate.

Now what tips can anyone provide on how to negotiate a lease, price, and do we need a realtor or property manager to help us? Should we try to look for one?

I contacted someone but they wanted us to sign an exclusive representation paperwork. Is this normal? Should I be concerned?

Right now we are just trying to get a handle on costs and potentially we would start the business next year.

It's normal, and generally the landlord will be paying their fees. Here's a link that should help:

Also entrepreneur.com has a ton of how to guides.

you keep eluding that the business will be very big
all I know if I was to rent a space I would rent from a private owner with a paid for building

I rent out retail spaces but mine are in old paid for buildings so the rent is pretty cheap for my tenants its likley way different than what you are going for

          Thank you Seeker and others.

We're looking for very specific space. Specific requirements and location. We're thinking another company who isn't using it so we can share equipment, etc.
