Will you get a raise this year?

Still waiting on that. We completed the yearly "evaluation" process a few weeks ago, and normally the raises are effective March 1st (we often get the numbers after that though!) 2008 was very good for our branch (even the last quarter), and our president was confident and positive when presenting this year target numbers, but you never know. Every excuse is good to not give out anything (even COL)

I just got my raise on the 28th of January. I work at Walgreens as a pharmacy technician and I got .25 cents. I think that's kind of ridiculous since when I worked at McDonalds as a teen, I got .15 every three months. Our raises aren't based on performance or seniority, everyone just gets .25 a year. Every year I keep hoping for more, but nope just the .25 that I got every previous year. BTW, I've been working at that place for 5 years. I really hope I can find another job in a few months when I graduate.

Yes, then no. I was promised a 5% raise coming in March that would be retroactive to Jan. That raise (along with everyone else's) is frozen through June. At our current rate of selling, that won't happen either. Also supposed to get promoted in Sept. with another 10% raise. I'll believe that when I see it. Still no word on the 2008 bonus either. So, we just live on what we've got.

Our union contract guarantees a COLA on Sept 1 of each year of a little less than 3%. However, in May I'll have enough seniority to get bumped up to the next level of pay, so I'll get a $2 per hour raise (about 5.6 percent raise). First order of business--boost retirement contributions from 13% to 15% and still enjoy a little extra net pay.
Not sure what will happen when the contract runs out a few years from now. It's also possible that if things get really bad the administration would ask to re-open negotiations before the contract expires to make the COLA increases smaller.

I feel blessed. My company didn't have the best of years either, but they are giving raises. They allocated an average of 3.75%. That means some could get more and some less, but they have that much money set aside within the organization going towards raises. I get mine in a few weeks. I am expecting somewhere in the 4.5 - 5% range. They raised our target bonus about 5.5% also. Which again is unbelievable considering what is going on.

Yes, my DH received a raise at the beginning of the year of 3.9%. He works for the US Army. We also received an increase in our housing allowance.
We feel very blessed. We've been in the private sector before in hard times when we didn't get raises. It is hard emotionally and financially, so my thoughts and prayers are with all of you who don't receive a raise. My other blog is Your Organized Friend.

Just found out that my pay will go up a bit this next contract year (Aug-July) by about ~$2500.00. I was worried there for a while that I either would a) stay the same or b) get a reduction in pay. I could have handled a freeze, but going backwards would have put us in a world of hurt.

No raise for me. Though I will still receive a bonus in the form of company stock, which isn't great, but it's something. And it's my only investment that's even close to even.“Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it … he who doesn’t … pays it.”
