niece doing bankruptcy and I'm disgusted

Social Services: Yet another overwhelmed, ineffective, unreliable gov't disaster. Way too many situations like the one you spoke of to comment on. But wait; The Obama Administration is providing more funding that should ensure that they continue the excellent job they are doing....yeah!!!

I deal with these kind of family situations be minding my own business. It really isn't any of your concern.

I would have to disagree. If you know for a fact that someone is scamming the government then it is our civic duty to get involved. I would rather my tax payer dollars go to programs that help individuals that are truly in need, not those that are lazy and have no integrity.

It all comes back to them in the end. I had a family member that maxed out every line of credit in the world before moving to Costa Rica thinking hey I am leaving the country so who cares. Needless to say they were waiting at the airport on a return visit. The rest of the story is history. I personally don't agree that anyone should ever be in the position to file bankruptcy and if they are they put themselves there. I had a family member that did a few years ago and it was the worst thing in the world for them. They goto keep there house and a couple old cars but all the new fancy cars were ordered returned, they lost a lot as well as there perfect credit but that what happens when you get one card to pay off another and before you know it you have 80G in CC debt.

My 32-year old niece who has two kids lives with the father of the kids. Since the "authorities" don't know he is living in the house, she is eligible for all kinds of public assistance. She only works part-time in daycare because she doesn't want to work full-time.

She told us yesterday that she is doing a bankruptcy because she "has too many bills and bankruptcy is not a big deal".

I'm disgusted because her 42-year old boyfriend (I'm mentioning their ages to show that these are not young, naive kids who simply made some bad mistakes) makes very good money but chooses to spend it on himself. I'm also disgusted because she bought all new furniture, a ton of new clothes and a refrigerator within the last few months and is excited that she won't have to pay for any of it now.

Sounds like someone needs a reality check.. Does she know when she retires she's going to be even more poor then now and she's not going to have any money to eat?
