Your money goes where your mind goes. If your mind goes on trips and to malls, thats where your money will go. Reaching important goals and priorities pushes lesser goals to the rear. You decide which are more important. Good luck.

I think everyone should be able to take a trip. This is the only thing that I have been able to do for myself. I have been trying to go on a cruise for the last 5 years and this one came up. I need a vacation.

No one is saying not to go. Were saying, it's wiser to reach your important goals without stumbling over lesser goals. How quickly you get there is your choice.

LivingAlmostLarge told me to cancel my trip.

And I agree with reach your important goals without stumbling over lesser goals.

To you, the trip is more important than paying off the debt. So go, have fun. Is your husband on board with this trip?

I suggest when you get back you sit down and figure out what your most important goals are and attack them first.

Then get rid of it and pay off the debt unless you can do a balance transfer for less.

I take back my statement about your priorities. It really wasn't my place to say that. My apologies.

I stand by the part of my post that I quoted above, though. I think a lot of people fool themselves (not saying this applies to you) by thinking that if they are paying cash, they can afford the purchase. LivingAlmostLarge has a thread about this. If you are paying cash, but neglecting other financial responsibilities, it may be that you can't actually afford what it is you are paying cash for.

Exactly just cause you have the cash saved doesn't make it "affordable". I'm not a hard core DR follower (maat is), but I do wonder why go on a trip without a spouse and you're still in debt and you complain about your spouse's debt?

Sounds like a his/her money thing, and also a his/her vacation thing. Are you guys a team about anything?

i know im kinda new and still learning myself, But I'm a firm believer that happiness is the most important thing. If she hasnt been on a vacation/ left home in like 2 or 3 years i think a vacation is needed, tho in said situation i would highly encourage u to be as frugal as possible (instead of budwiser n' marlboro's do Bush light/basic full flavor). This is purely my own opinion though.
But after your vacation you should think if it was worth it, i mean sometimes depending on where u live a vacation on a cruise can be just as personally rewarding as driving to a nearby beach/Lake and gett'n hammer drunk for 3 days in a row, maybe buy a macaw to complete the illusion. (consider that a frugal vacation)

Amarowsky-I'm a very Frugal person. All I do is go to work and back home paybills, save and invest. This trip is a much needed vacation. I don't shop for myself at all. And I NEED new clothes. I only shop for my daughter on the 80% rack. I do go out to eat or to events twice a month.

I hate to be out spoken, but I think this post has a lot of merit.

I'd get rid of the credit card debt as soon as possible, especially because your savings will not earn you anywhere close to what you are paying in credit card debt.

In fact, you might want to consider liquidating your emergency fund to pay your credit card and keep one card in the short term as your emergency fund. The save your emergency fund.

Not ideal, but I think its important to get rid of the credit card debt as soon as humany possible.
