  • Credit Score and Report?

What is a good credit score? Is it out of 830 or 850 now? How do you read your score?

Also on your report if you have open credit cards but aren't sure about them, do you call the company and ask what they are? And cancel them?

It's possible I have open accounts from a long time ago, and I should cancel them but never have. There is no activity, but it's just well open. I can't even recall the credit card number.

From what I have read, it seems that if you have anything above a 770, that is considered to be a good credit score. It is all up to the company that is pulling your information. Some consider anything in the mid to high 700's to be a good credit score.

Read this article, it explains that there are many different "credit scores" out there now (the original FICO score, available at Equifax or myfico is out of 850). The Experian PLUS score is out of 830, but it is not used by lenders. The VantageScore (annualcreditreport.com) is out of 990, but it is only used by a few lenders.
