I have caused 1 accident and I was sued over it. Fortunately I just rear ended someone going 15 MPH and no one was hurt. The other person settled pretty quickly, but it opened my eyes! If someone really were injured, it could cost a lot!

I just got my bill for our umbrella policy - $180/year for $1 million coverage. As long as DH insists on building a giant sled hill in our front yard, I have to keep the policy!

"If you are in an accident you will get sued and you will want lots of insurance at that time." Apologize for the blanket statement . I like many people once had the attitude that insurance was a complete rip-off and I always carried min. coverage. After I was involved in an accident in the fog driving to work and became entangled in a legal mess where large damage amounts were being thrown at me by a lawyer for the other party. I have changed my mind on this. I now view insurance as a necesscary evil. Everyone needs to make their own judgment Prior to this I had never even filed a claim on my auto insurance policy or been in any type of accident. It is my opinon that there are lots of lawyers out there looking for work and I do not want to be on the recieving end again without adequate protection.

We carry $1m in umbrella coverage for about $180/yr.

One of my goals is to be as financially insulated as possible. This is one part of my strategy to achieve that. I'm satisfied with my purchase.

Sweeps, I know! Anyway though, did I add within 30 days of meeting my DH he hit my car? He also hit his car on my car within 30 days.

Good thing I married him, but still, it should have been foreshadowing of our car issues for life.

Eh, it's just money, as long as he doesn't kill anyone. God forbid, I'm okay with it. Cars are replaceable. I just told him to make lots so everytime he hits a wall, tree, pothole, it's coming out of his money! Then he crys and says I'm unfair. Did I mention I've never caused and accident or hit anything while parking?
