  • RE: private loans

    Hi everyone,

I am looking to see if there is anyone who knows someone/ or can help with a private loan for 2 weeks. My water got cut of yesterday and now the electricity will be cut tomorrow if I don't pay by this afternoon, I have 4 kids and I don't know what to do, I called family members and friends it seems like every one is going through a crisis. $300 is the amount that I need. Please help me if you can. If anyone question my intentions you can contact me and I will put on the line with the utilities companies for verification.

    Thank you.

I just tried prosper.com and they say my credit score is to low ( the stupid mistakes I made years ago are still following me). Zee8 I did ask the electric company, that's why I'm looking for $300 because the actual bill is $403 but they are allowing me to pay half plus the water bill.
I feel like like I'm loosing my head here.

This will seem extra ordinarily harsh but perhaps a stranger can force you to 'get real' since friends and family chose not to hurt your feeling. A short term loan will be yet another debt and add to your litany of mistakes.

Your options are obvious... increase income & slash spending to survival level. Call every government agency in your community to get orderely payment of debt assistance. That should reduce some stress.

If DKs are old enough, they need to earn income to help the family. If space permits, board a student or rent a room to a professional or care for a senior. Sell car, clothes, trinkets, toys etc. Clean houses, walk dogs, deliver flyers, whatever is legal and available.

It's time to step up and take action, rather than require others to rescue you. I presume that's been your experience.

Vella, I agree that you need to go into emergency action to get this paid off so you can have water. If you can't get your water turned back on, you are going to have to take your children somewhere else. Maybe relatives, maybe friends can take them in. Maybe there is a homeless shelter that will take you in, or even you with your children. Since you will have the $300 in two weeks you would only have to impose upon helping family, friends, or shelters for two weeks--though some may need a bit of money from you to meet the extra expenses of taking care of your children. But maybe a sister, for example, could take in your kids if you could give her enough money to cover their food at the time you expect to come into enough money to pay your water bill.

I too wonder if you have some things you could quickly sell to come up with the money. Television? DVD player? Computer? Camera? Ipod? Cell phone? Other electronics? Furniture? Jewelry? Your own labor?

QUOTE=snafu;137490]Call every government agency in your community to get orderely payment of debt assistance. .[/QUOTE]

Snafu, can you explain what you mean by this? What do you mean by orderly payment? Is there something about government help that will make payments orderly?

And are you suggesting that there is government help for paying a water bill off? I doubt it. I don't think it would be worth the time spent to call every government agency.

If Vella is going to secure some help by making phone calls I think she is more likely to get help from non-profit private agencies than from government.

But if you know something more about it, I'd like to hear.

snafu I appreciate your input since you mean well and I did put myself out there. rigth now your words cannot hurt me more than the thoutgh of not having running water and electricity for my children. It's so easy to place jugment when you don't have the facts.

My family just moved to a new city in order to cut on the cost of living, so I find myself in an endless search for jobs. I posted stuff for sell on ebay etc... no luck. I cannot get help from government Agencies because we are not qualified based on my husband's income. And just so you know I would clean your house if you were to offer because there is nothing I would not do for my kids including being vulnerable here on this site.

I just hope you guys can understand all it takes is a paycheck or two, my husband only did not work for a couple days that's how we find ourselves in this situation. If there is one thing I'll get out of this is to not kick others when they are down, because I know what it feels like. Just because someone has less does not mean they are lazy or are nobody.

There is government assistance in some areas, although as vella notes she may not qualify if the household income is too high.

Check with the Dept. of Health and Human Services in your county or state for emergency assistance.

Do you belong to a church? They maybe able to help you.

You need to get yourself in a better financial position-start looking at what you are making vs what is going out.

Why not cancel your cable TV and use that money to pay the water bill?

                            Action

Vella: I hope you found a solution for your short-term problem with over-due utility bills. [BTDT] Please don't be defensive, I assure you, it was NOT my intention to insult you.
It is imparative to learn from your experience and take action to solve money problems long term. There is a system for 'orderly payment of debt' available to all 'over their heads' in debt. Unfortunately they have different names in each community. It is important to differentiate between the 'for profit' companies that manage to transfer whatever money you have from your pocket to theirs...all talk...no useful action.

If you wish help formulating a specific plan, continue to post and you will get a multitude of suggestions.
