"Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Tuesday that it will start offering its holiday deals at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving at its stores -- two hours earlier than last year.

The world's largest retailer will stagger holiday deals throughout the night and into "Black Friday," the day after Thanksgiving that's traditionally the busiest shopping day of the year.

The company also said that it will increase its stock of TVs by 65 percent and double the number of tablet computers for sale that weekend. It's also bulking up the list of guaranteed popular items that it will sell in designated sections of its store to 21, from three last year."

I read something they will have $127 off tires, each or all 4? I need new tires for my car.

Hopefully this will limit the mad rush that has caused injury and death in the past. I'd love to see the whole Black Friday thing go away entirely and have it just be another day, but I know that'll never happen. The retailers plan all year for the few weeks of the holiday shopping season.

Of course this year, us Jews all lose out because Chanukah begins the day before Thanksgiving so our shopping will be done (not that I would set foot in a store that time of year anyway).

      * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
      * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
      * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

I'm a Christian and I won't step foot in a store this time of year either.

I actually did some shopping online already. The rest, I will probably take off some odd day during the week sometime in early December and go shopping. That is what I did last year and it worked well. I took off a Tuesday during the first week of December and did most of my shopping. No crowds, no traffic. I may have paid a little more since I missed out on the Black Friday stuff, but I didn't care.

Actually, we have shopped Black Friday several times. We go out after noon and the stores are usually pretty quiet by then because all of the lunatics have gone home. We dont' get the "doorbuster" deals but we still get the regular sales.

I'm agnostic, and not only will I not step foot in a store, I choose alternate driving routes to avoid the most popular shopping areas.
