Good list. I think toilet paper was meant as a joke.
I happen to disagree with gambling being a waste, but it depends on the situation. I count gambling as part of my entertainment budget. We don't blow a lot of money on things most people do. We have limited basic cable $10/month, we don't eat out a lot, we hardly ever go to the movies, we don't smoke and hardly ever drink alcohol, no bottled water, no Starbucks, we don't buy much clothing and when we do it is moderately priced stuff. We live a pretty frugal life. So if I want to spend an hour or two at the casino, I see nothing wrong with that. In fact, we just decided to go to Atlantic City this Saturday. My last visit, 2 weeks ago, I won $80. The visit before, last month, we lost $6. The visit before that I broke even. No wasted money yet. In fact, I'm ahead for the year.Steve
* Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
* Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
* There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

if you gamble for entertainment...great..no worse than a movie (and like for you and for my husband can turn out cheaper...or a profit) but if you see it as a way to get ahead...a way to win big...like a lottery..total waste.
Now having said that...the list includes many entertainment 'wasters'
And one 'waste' ... waste is a waste? err you would think on a list of things to waste you would list them..not just repeat the name of the list...

I actually disagreed with almost everything on the list and found it mildly irritating.
To my way of thinking, pretty much the only "waste" of money is using it for kindling. Everything else is just choices and I actually think it's pretty nervy to pass judgment on what people buy (within the bounds of the law and financial solvency, of course).
I'm a bottled water-buying, cable-subscribing, restaurant-eating, toilet paper-using, gift-wrapping, trash bag-disposing person who happens to be leaving for Vegas this Friday. I sure don't have plans to apologize for any of it either. I'm doing just fine.

As for Vegas, that list shows $2,000 for gambling. Obviously, if you go and lose $2,000, you wouldn't be happy. Last time we went to Vegas, however, I won a few dollars short of what our hotel bill came to, so a 5 day stay at Excalibur ended up costing us about $50. I don't think that was a waste at all.Steve

If you tried the tap water at my house you wouldn't think bottled water is a "waste"
While I agree with most things and go to supercuts to get my $12 haircut every six months, I know people that go because it is their reward for working so hard. It is how they relax, and a nice fancy ambience is how they treat themselves, just like some people do with vacations, gambling, starbucks, etc.

Oh and the comment about sprinklers in the rain, you're welcome to come to my house and run around the back of the house in a thunderstorm to turn off the sprinklers when it rains. But I must warn you, by the time you make it around the house, the sun may be out again.
