That is a good question.. if we wanted to do the ebay thing - can we use misc. things from home? Or is that against the rules?

Maybe I am asking for my cake and eating it, too, but I would like to see a long term goal (perhaps for the year), but also see shorter "checkpoints," where we can evaluate where we are at. The $5,000 Challenge got me to start thinking, but I hesitated to jump in and instead lurked and read others' ideas. I'm thinking that having 3-month checkpoints will allow for new users and lurkers to jump in, even after the start date, and feel like they can compete. It might be nice to see a "Most % Increase for the Quarter" type of incentive.

As for prizes that you might be considering...we might not need them. Personally, I like prizes, but the thrill of competition is good, too. I am just thinking that if someone were to jump in on October 1, 2006, they still might be able to show a large return in the final quarter of the year, even though they will most likely not hit a goal set for a year-long challenge.

Maybe I am just rambling now, but I am thinking that the more people who can get on board to try, the more chances for different ideas to show up might happen. Personally, I didn't chime in on the Challenge, because it was Spetember or October before I got on here...I just sat and lurked.

Dh and I are committed to turning our $20 into $5000. I am surprised that he's willing to do it with me, but he thought it was a great idea when I told him about it. We will be including any money that we make outside of our regular jobs, not including gift money, or income from investments that we already have. Is this alright, or is it cheating?

There really isn't a way to cheat in this project - well, except if you lie about the amount that you've been making, but then, you're just cheating yourself. The basic rule is that if it is something that you wouldn't normally do but were motivated to do so because of the challenge, then it's fair game. As long as you explain why you're doing it and why you feel it's part of the challenge, then everyone can read knowing your intentions and the reasoning behind the move.
