I don't know if this feature is new but I just discovered it so figured I would share. For all I know it's been there for years and I just never noticed.

When you log into your account, it shows the "balance overview" screen which lists each of your accounts and what they're worth. The 2nd tab is "recent activity". The 3rd tab is "performance summary". I just clicked on that for the first time. It pulls up a graph showing the 10-year return of your Vanguard portfolio. There's a drop down menu to also get the 5, 3, 1-year, and YTD data.

My 10-year return is 8.6% which isn't too shabby, especially since that includes the 2008 recession. The 5-year figure is considerably better at 14.2% since the recession drops out of that calculation.

Again, this might not be new. I just think it's a neat feature to get a big-picture look at how we're doing at least with the Vanguard portion of our holdings.

That's a cool feature. Wish my brokers had that (USAA and Fidelity).

My 403B only shows up to 5 years. The company was with Vanguard when I worked there and switched to a different company, so that may be the reason why. My 1 year return is 21.31%, 3 year is 7.23%, and 5 year is 11.22%. I changed my investments to a much more aggressive mix this year. It is 50% growth, 50% aggressive growth, and half of the aggressive growth is in international funds. I feel that I can be much more risky with my account because it is much smaller than my husband's, and I made his account much more conservative this year. Oddly enough, his account gained an additional 5% (as of today) after I tweaked it. His also only shows up to 5 years, but there is only year to date data available since I changed everything.

Definitely not anything too new... I remember that feature being there at least since I started with Vanguard in 2010... I remember trying to figure out a way to make it incorporate past (pre-Vanguard) holdings to no avail.... But it is definitely nice to easily see what returns we've had over time, as opposed to relying on averages & estimates, or having to crunch all of the numbers yourself.

8.6% ain’t bad. You’re doubling every 8/9 years at that clip.

My 10 yr is 10.9 and my 5 yr was 12.9, that was when I was 90% in a total stock index fund. Now that I'm disabled I'm in a less risky mix, it will be interesting to see how that fares, so far the 1 yr on that is 20.9 but I'm expecting a huge plummet now that it's Nov and Obama's economic policies are done.

great year for my 401k so far, it's amazing what a little pro-business talk from the White House will do. Now for that corporate tax rate cut......

Thanks for pointing this out, I guess I never paid attention if it was there before? My 10 year return is 8.6% too, weird. And my 5 year is 14.5%.

I must be doing something right if I'm mirroring you .
