    That's insane.

That’s true but it doesn’t bother me at all since it’s simple to just initiate the transfer from Ally in my case (or my daughter’s case) or Vanguard. If there was no way to avoid it I’d be upset about it.

I've been nothing but pleased with Chase, having two checking and two CC accounts with them.

    1. They have branches near me, near where my daughter went for undergrad, and where she'll be living during grad school,
    2. the web site is coherent, rational, and allows me to see checking and CC accounts in the same window, and
    3. their customer services has been good whenever I call them to reverse something stupid I did, or to report a lost/stolen card.

And yes, it is very nice to have branches nationwide, not that I've ever used one away from home but I see them everywhere we go.
being in general very difficult to deal with. Also I am charged $20 if I choose to transfer money to my capital one from BofA through their website. I have to generate the withdrawal on the other end or else i get charged a fee. Basically they charge a fee to call or deal with them in anyway.

I'll wait until you send me one because it expires. I either went into the branch or deposited it mobile. I only have $3600 deposited a month from our Capital One and use that to pay bills. Mostly it's so I can stop anywhere and get cash and have a physical branch. But I hate them. I just have too much inertia to change it and get a local CU.

We've had wells fargo for approx 15 years. Well, it was wachovia then turned into wells Fargo. Never had a single issue. We since moved and do not have a wells Fargo near us, but we have a local credit union we also use.

WE only use credit union to deposit cash or checks that will not work with mobile deposit. The kind of rebate checks that come on what looks like a post card.

We get an owners dividend every year.

I know CU's vary place to place, but I'm still puzzled why people go to big business banks.
Same for us. We've banked primarily with two credit unions. We exited the first after it switched from a credit union to a S&L. We've been very happy with the second credit union and, at this point, I could not come up with a reason to bank with a traditional bank. Noting that we do have MM accounts with both Ally and Vanguard. Am fine with both, though I have the impression that the transfer process with Ally seems to take a couple extra days.

They do not. I've transferred money back and forth numerous times. I know that it takes a few days so I plan accordingly. For something like a real estate closing, I'd certainly make sure to initiate the transfer well in advance regardless of the bank involved. That's not something I'd leave to the last minute. A local branch wouldn't make any difference.

Must have been 10 years ago but she said apologized something to the effect that she made a mistake so I chalked it up as an honest mistake but as I look back now I know it was to pad her numbers and increase her commission, so disingenuous.

What was her explanation when you asked?

Didn't affect me or anyone I know. For that matter, let's be absolutely clear that big banks exist to MAKE MONEY. Not one of them - WF or BOA or Citi or Ally or Barclays is in it to do charity. So that part doesn't bother me, especially as the onus of borrowing responsibly and speaking up when an a/c is opened in my name without my consent.

Had they tried to open an a/c in my name, I'd have pressed identity theft charges on the local branch. Yes, that's unethical conduct, but it didn't affect me so I'm staying put, esp as I am not going to believe that other banks are not in it for the money!

Does Ally have local branches? I have heard some complaints about Ally, including one where a wire transfer from them ended up delaying a closing... so there's always someone out there who has an issue with some bank. I have no doubt that WF is the devil incarnate for many but I wouldn't buy the spiel that other banks exist merely to serve

Would it have been easier if your cousin had merely added you as a joint account holder to all his a/cs when he realized that he didn't have a lot of time left?
Absolutely. I was actually going to start a thread about that. Making all of your accounts Payable on Death is SO much easier.

Out of curiosity, where do you bank?

Inertia is often the biggest reason. Perhaps their parents or other trusted adults got them started with a given company. Or they were simply the first one that an individual came across. Research continually shows that people will stay in a bad situation simply because they're already in that situation.
