Sorry, I should have been clearer. I was referring to the millions of people who had no coverage before and now do. For those folks, it's a whole lot better.Steve

Most of those millions did not have coverage because they chose not to. While I think that is asinine, we have reached a whole new level of government intrusion when the gubmit says we MUST buy something that they deem necessary - and it must be THEIR gold, silver, or bronze plans, with benefit plans THEY decide.Originally posted by disneysteve View PostSorry, I should have been clearer. My gosh what has this country come to, to allow that? Astounding really.

Worst. Argument. Ever.Originally posted by TexasHusker View Postwe have reached a whole new level of government intrusion when the gubmit says we MUST buy something that they deem necessary
It makes me sad when conservatives who are forced by the government (I get conflicting evidence of whether Texas requires it) to buy insurance before they can drive turn around and whine, bitch and moan about how horrible it is that the government forces them to but insurance.
That is the purposefully slippery slope towards Single Payer.- and it must be THEIR gold, silver, or bronze plans, with benefit plans THEY decide.
My gosh, what has it come to when people are so blatantly hypocritical about government mandated insurance??My gosh what has this country come to, to allow that? Astounding really.

Guess I'm missing your point here. Where exactly is the hypocrisy you claim ?
And yes, Bummercare is the law in all 50 states.Last edited by TexasHusker; 01-09-2017, 07:36 PM.

Poor analogy. Requirement of a minimum level of liability insurance, offered by dozens of insurers, is a different animal than an expensive, complex heath insurance policy offered by one or two carriers in many markets, with mandated benefits, deductibles, and maximum out of pocket amounts.Originally posted by Nutria View PostDo you fulminate against government-mandated auto insurance?

You fulminated against, quoting you, "we MUST buy something that they deem necessary". The gummit deems that we must buy auto insurance because they say it's necessary. Thus, you must fulminate against it, too, or be hypocritical.Originally posted by TexasHusker View PostPoor analogy. IF, OTOH, you'd only fulminated against government-mandated lack-of-choice, I'd have been with you 100%. But you didn't. You took the intellectually sloppy bumper-sticker path instead.

Question...for obamacare...lets say someone is 60 years old and wants to retire. Is money drawn from their 401k considered income? If its not considered income thats good news for anyone wanting to retire early (like 50's). Your insurance through obama would be dirt cheap if you're using money from savings/index funds...guess your salary would be considered $0?

From what I scanned over last night it's based on AGI, so whatever you show on taxes is what they will go by.Originally posted by rennigade View PostQuestion...for obamacare...lets say someone is 60 years old and wants to retire. Sometimes that reason is you're stupid and make bad choices.

I would assume distributions from retirement accounts count as income. My mother is on Medicare but she does get certain senior assistance and her IRA distributions count as income.Originally posted by rennigade View PostQuestion...for obamacare...lets say someone is 60 years old and wants to retire.
