        Bank Account

We only have one account. because our accounting is amazing we easily track all comings and goings as well as running balances.

Additional accounts are, in my opinion, redundant.

this is what I do. I don't get having 9 or more, is it because of special offers? But then you have to get new checks, set up new bill pay system, it seems like more hassle, to me. If you use them for totally different uses for each one, isn't keeping track of more than 9 a total PITA? what am I missing?

I have around 30 open accounts all over the place. Some are old banks I don't use, some are from promotions I took advantage of. I used to have a lot of separate savings accounts, but now it all gets lumped into one and I track it via spreadsheet. I use a lot less now and like the simplicity:

            Checking
            Savings
            College
            IRA's
            Taxable Retirement

I also have a checking account for my work expenses to keep it separate.

As a corollary, I also have over 30 credit card accounts. I use 5 of them (all get paid off each month):

Citi - every day expenses (for 2% cash back)
            3 specialty cards (Target, Macy's, Kohl's) - for sales
            Delta Amex - for Costco

I would rather just use the Citi card for everything, but those specialty stores give some great sales/discounts.

i haven't counted but I have a lot, too. But mostly everything goes on Discover. I recently left my job d/t a disability, I'm waiting for the other shoe to fall and my credit cards to send me letters lowering my limits. So while I'd like to cut back, I probably shouldn't right now, I assume

there really is not "too much" as long as there's a good reason for them.

Way too many. In the process of trying to consolidate everything down to a few convenient banks.

Four accounts. Three banks (one online), one credit union.

Right now, our best interest is on a checking account. 4.01% on up to $10,000. That offer has stayed steady for years now, except that they used to offer the 4.01% on up to $20,000.

If interested, see https://www.fcnb.com/personal-checking.htm and click on Real Life Checking.
