What's the general consensus around here regarding having the majority of your 401K in equity funds? I changed up my 401K investment strategy a couple of months back and it seems to be paying off in the short-term, but I'm curious to know what others on this board have to say about it. I've read different opinions and realize that the older you get, the less risk you should be taking. I'm only 31 years old, so I do have a lot of time before retirement.
I'm also playing a catch up game, because I don't have a years salary in my 401K at age 31, which is what I've been advised to have somewhere between 30 and 35. I currently have 12% (4% of my income, 4% employer match, and 4% profit sharing) of my salary going into 401K and plan to up that to 15% (includes employer match and profit sharing) when I get my annual raise next month.
Currently ... 80% of my portfolio is spread between three equity funds and 20% is spread between two bond funds.
Need some advice from those wiser than myself.
