401k vesting schedule

Date of Hire: Aug 15 2013
I was eligible to participate after 3 months so I started contributing on my 401k Nov 15 2013.

Employer match 50% of first 6% of contribution

with vesting schedule

Years of Service
1 - 33%
2 - 66%
3 - 100%

So I guess my question is, when does vesting starts? Does it start at the date of hire or first contribution? If I leave Aug 15 2014, do I get the 33% or only after Nov 15 2014?

It's usually based on date of hire.

My limited experience has been date of hire, but I don't know if that is set by law or if plans have any leeway on that.
If you can't find this spelled out in the plan information, you should check with your company's HR dept regarding the rules of your specific plan.

Thanks for the reply. I don't see anything in our plan information. I was gonna ask our HR but I don't want them to know or feel that I might be leaving after a year. I'm just curious and not planning to leave.
