  • should i move balances?

Hey there, I've done some research on my 401k and found a few of my funds have relatively high expense ratios (fees). They are in the .92 to 1.15 range. I've stopped putting money into these funds. My question is : Should I move all the money out of those funds too.And are there typically any charges for doing this.?

There is usually no charge to move from one fund to another inside a 401k plan.

Good job on looking at your costs and taking steps to reduce them.

Yeah, I agree, and point out:

      - Some 401k funds have penalties for sale after a short holding period. But it sounds like you have held, and will hold, the funds for an appropriate time period for this not to be an issue. You should be able to read about the fund characteristics.

      - Fund are valued for transfer out/buy in as of a particular market close date. This may not be the same date you make the request; it may be a delay of a day or two. This could only be significant if there is some major factor affecting the respective value of the funds within that time period.

Switching funds solely based on costs is not necessarily the best approach.

Why not post the full set of options you have, with ticker symbols for each?
