  • Thrivet ~ Any experience?

Thrivent has been suggest to us over and over. I am curious if anyone has any experience with them.

I have no personal experience but looking at their website, they seem to handle all of the products that we always tell people to stay away from. Managed mutual funds with high expense ratios, annuities, etc. I didn't spend a lot of time looking but just on first glance, I don't see anything appealing.
    Steve

    * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

I'm going to admit that Steve I did not even look at the website yet! Most of our church members have their money invested there.

My sister's grandmother in law has all her money invested with them, and is apparently pleased. I would guess they are fine, but just with any other 'loaded' or managed fund you will pay more fees than you would investing with no load funds, such as Vanguard, Fidelity, or T Rowe Price.
My other blog is Your Organized Friend.

That's probably true. They aren't necessarily bad. They just aren't the best choice. And if they push annuities on people, then they are bad since annuities are rarely the appropriate choice.

If it makes you feel better that the extra fees you are paying are going to a business with stated religious values, then this is a good choice. Personally, I prefer to skip the extra fees altogether.

Ok, I finally looked at the website. Not impressed. I will stick with the Vanguard we opened and our other companies. Though I will say they did good things for my mom 9 years ago when dad passed and getting her sorted out and secure when she didnt know what to do with the insurance etc. She locked into an annuity rate that is now unheard of. Maybe wasn't the best back then. I dont know.

Petunia I do think that is likely why most of the congregation that suggests them does.
