I use an advisor and it has worked well for me. The fees aren't bad and I'm sure I've avoided mistakes over the years because of good advice. Angelynne: you are the biggest risk taker of us all! The media thrives on fear and alarm but you know you are not in danger of insurgents in day-to-day living. You are losing as your money buys less and less. How much income has your saving earned in the last month? How much had the account paid since 1/1/11? I hope you will re-exam your plan.
Yes, our investments move up and down with the economy and market currents but over the l-o-n-g term we see our net worth continuing to increase. Being mindful of economic events allow us to make small adjustments to reduce bumps.
