In playing the float of our monthly purchases (that are put on a cashback card), my cc bill is due on the 5th of each month. To be safe I have an automatic deposit from ING to checking take place on the 29th.
It looks like I may need to revise it a bit. The money was available in my checking account on the 30th. How's that for a quick turn?
It looks like I was right and those 5% rates have arrived. I am still quite disappointed with ING and wish they would raise their rates a bit more.
I don't think ING is going to catch up to the rest of the banks. Might as well not think about them anymore and just move your money to one of the others. I think part of the problem is that ING spends too much on advertising and customers have to pay for it with a lower interest rate.
I still think ING won the battle early because they were the first ones in the game and they're still the best/easiest to use. I started opening an Emigrant account for my grandmother (who's 89 and not internet savvy) yesterday. I suppose sometime the week after next she'll have full account access. Too bad my Dad can't link his checking account too. That would take an act of congress. BTW, the Emigrant security questions are pretty funny when your credit history consists of "checking account".
Erm, the rate differential is great enough that we may move our house downpayment fund somewhere else (it's the bulk of our liquid savings).
I might still stick w/ ing for my game of float. I can't believe nobody responded to my post that my autowithdrawal from ING was available the next day. I was floored it happened that fast.

OK, here's what I'm endevouring to set up: the 5.12% APY premier savings and 4.5% APY checking with Presidential for instant transfers between them. I have the checking now, the free bill pay system is very nice, my funds for the 5K opening min on the savings are still scattered here and there; they have an online demo of their interface if you'd like. Then I'll link up their checking to my local branch for ATM deposits thru HSBC's 5.05%.
This is how I've been operationing for the last 2 years in regards to the presidential compomnent of your plan. I agree its a good plan that maximizes rate and cash management.
