  • please convince me!

Ok here is the story..lol..I have collected Oilily girls clothing for the past 3 yrs..stupid hobbie!
Anyway I have had an email asking if I have a certain skirt that Oilily did a while back..which I do have..the woman has offered me $200 nzd for it-which is what I paid for it (yes insane I know!)..I want to sell it BUT it is my fav item of clothing.
Granted my DD wont get to wear it till she is 5 (she is almost 3).
Its so insane that I am nervous..lol..mainly because I know I will never get this skirt ever again..it sells for up to $300usd!.
I dont want to regret selling this but,it seems insane to have.
    Does that make sense?

    Insane mum from nz!..lol

        Re: please convince me!

Keep the skirt. It is obvious that you love it and I am sure that your daughter will love it as well. Is there anyway that you can get it altered so it can fit her now so she can get some more wear out of it. I have to get all my daughters clothes brought in at the waist and as she gets older I let out the seams and long skirts become short ones and trousers become shorts. Only problem is that it will most likely affect the value of the skirt if you decide to sell it later. If it is timeless then your daughter will be able to pass it on to her daughter if and when the time comes.

Congrats on taking your big girl pill and getting it done! Is there anywhere you can purchase this line at a discount? Do they have clearance sales? Maybe next time you can get something for a bargain.

lol @ big girl pill! Its kinda pathetic isnt it..I mean its only a skirt..lol
Nope this skirt is very rare and even more harder to get because it has its swing tags attached.
I think there is an important leason to be learned here for me-I am kinda embarrassed that the skirt meant so much to me..lol

next time look at the future, what will your DD remember, the skirt, or the mommy teaching her to get dressed, and more important how to manage finances?

No lecture but $300 for a skirt for a child (or otherwise)? No way.

                        Re: please convince me!

I checked out their website....and it looks like they do not sell in the US.

The clothes are cute, but they didn't list prices...and from the sounds of it they are pricey.

I, personally, would not spend that type of money on clothes...or any collection for that matter. (I guess my collection is my coupons and bank account)

But I do understand that many people find great enjoyment out of these hobbies...and apparently, there is a resale market for the clothes...so you may make money in the end if you decide to sell... (an investment of sorts?)

Sounds like you were happy with your decision in the end~ and your DD will never miss it

                          Re: please convince me!

They are a Dutch company and based in Holland. They have stores in the usa and only one here in nz-pricey yes!!
The resale is very good, but ya have to part with the clothes to make ya money back..something that I struggled with..lol..so it kinda defeated the purpose..lol
Yes sure insane to spend that amount of money on a kids clothing item-and I do realise that only now.
Whats funny is I never brought her Oilily to impress anyone as no one really knows the brand here in NZ,I brought it because it is very different and off the wall.
Interetsing for me to know that I am relieved that I have sold the skirt-I did find it hard to know that although it was packed away in her "to grow into"clothing,it made me feel quite ill to know just how expensive it was.
I also sold 3 other Oilily clothing items for $300 to another woman yesterday.
I am very happy to have FINALLY arrived and realised just how mental my spending was.
I am so glad its over.
