  • "Free Money" Glitch or Three Hots and a Cot

In the off chance you didn't hear about this, a method for cheating Chase Bank's ATMs went viral.

It seems people were able to write a personal check to themselves, deposit the check, and the funds listed on the check were immediately available for withdrawal.

If you wanted $50,000 just write the check, deposit it, and withdraw the money.

A significant number of people decided check fraud would be a fun idea.

Once Chase bank worked the issue out, these people were all greeted with updated balances showing the balance they owed. Per my example, -$50,000 !!

In addition to the stated balance, their name, account number, photo are all recorded. Depending on the community, some DA are going to be working overtime.

Dumb on all accounts. Ba-da-tsk. Our bank only lets some of the deposited funds be available when it's over a certain amount. Not that I'd try to exploit a glitch by writing myself a fraudulent check from my account or someone else's and then try to withdraw the money. These things almost never work out in the account holder's favor.
      History will judge the complicit.

Of course. You've got to be a special kind of stupid to think that robbing a bank where they know your name, address, and SSN, and have video of the transaction will end well for you. Going in with a ski mask and taking money from a teller isn't okay either but at least then they need to figure out who you are. Here they know exactly who you are, where you live, and how to contact you.
