Yesterday I put in our first LED bulb. It is 9 watts, replacing a 19 watt CFL. I'm liking the light quality.

I haven't gotten started on the LED train yet. We still have a bunch of new CFL bulbs that we purchased before LED bulbs became popular. Can't return them, so I figure we can eventually use up the CFLs we have, then at that point we can start switching to LED. I just can't stomach wasting the sunk cost of all the lights in our house (100% CFL) to save 5-10% on our monthly power bill.

Same here. I only started installing LEDs when we were out of CFLs and the price of LEDs had come down. And we still have a few CFLs but especially in the fixtures that are either hardest to get to or get the heaviest usage, I've been switching to LEDs when the bulbs burn out. I haven't replaced any working bulbs. I think that's a waste, even if it saves a little energy.Originally posted by kork13 View PostI just can't stomach wasting the sunk cost of all the lights in our house (100% CFL) to save 5-10% on our monthly power bill.Steve
* Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.

We bought a bunch of led's when costco was running a special. It was like 10 led bulbs for $5 or something. Hard to go back to your standard bulb after seeing how bright they are. Although they're sometimes too bright. Shows all the imperfections on your walls (especially in the bathroom!)

It's the "color" of the light, which could be interpreted as "brightness"Originally posted by Jluke View PostI’ve been looking into the LED bulbs more.
Brightness seems to come in the following from soft white to daylight and whatever the 3000 K is considered in between.
2700 K (K=Kelvins)
3000 K
5000 K
Correct me if I am wrong.
bulbs are manufactured from anywhere between 2000k and 6500kGunga galunga...gunga -- gunga galunga.

What kind of cabinet lights do you have that require 36 of them? I just installed under cabinet LED strips (these, total around $130) and they throw off a lot of light.Originally posted by Jluke View PostI am having two LED bulbs put into our ceiling fan light tomorrow (high ceiling). Supplied by our energy company.
I am also having the 36 kitchen cabinet lights replaced with LEDs. I will never recoup the cost of replacing them - $700+.
Oh well.

House was built in 2006. I believe it is a high end system (according to my electrician). There are wires running above and below the cabinets. A bracket can be placed anywhere along the wire and then the light installed into the bracket. Thus 18 lights above and 18 lights below.
Here is something similar to what was installed.
