  • I found my debt notebook

I kept a running tally of our debt way back when (when we had a tremendous amount of debt) and I happened to find one of the notebooks today. I get just as frustrated now looking at it as I did back then, but at least now I don't get chest pains. It was interesting to see the progress, or sometimes lack thereof. Juggling one balance transfer to another went on for quite a while. We were only able to pay off $6,000 between 2010 and 2011.

One thing I have learned is that this happened longer ago than I realized. I kept thinking it was around 2010/2011, but the list starts at August of 2010 and we owed the IRS "only" $7,400 at that point. I believe we owed them closer to $40,000 when my husband cashed out the retirement account. So I suppose it is time for me to let it go, but honestly, I'm still so mad at my husband for not only cashing out the retirement accounts after he agreed not to, but then borrowing money from his parents without telling me. He basically gave away $300,000. I have a feeling that my last words will be "I just want to punch him in the face for that." or similar.

Not getting anymore chest pains when you look at that notebook must mean that you've moved forward and progressed from that time period!

Whoa. I think those goings-on are what people call financial unfaithfulness. I would be steamed. That was a deep hole to climb out of. And ditch diggers tend to dig ditches again and again.

Thanks for all of the encouragement. We do have more in retirement savings than what we originally had, finally, but I can't stop myself from thinking, "we would have had X amount by now if he listened to me".

Yes, "steamed" wasn't quite the word I have used over and over again.
