Tell me about it. Considering that my daughter goes to a public school and over $8,000 of our $12,000 in property taxes goes to support the schools, we pay a surprising amount for her education.

My daughter could have gone to community college for free. Of course, that's not where she went but it was an option. Had money really been an issue, she could have gone that route.

I was going to say the same. Our taxes are about $8,000. I don't have the bill in front of me but I believe about 3/4 of that goes to the schools.

Well I'm sorry but the cost of shelter needs to free in order for school to be truly free by your definition. Even if I'm paying 1 dollar/month on rent, one can still argue that 30 cents out of that dollar goes to the public school their kids attend.

Anyone can have access to public education in the U.S at a subsidized cost since it's socialized if you guys want to play around with semantics.

The point of the post to show that people in the developed world having easy access to public schools.

I took the "free education" comment to be aimed at college, not primary school, but I'm not sure if that's what he meant. That's why I said that my daughter could have gone to community college for 4 years for free is we wanted her to.

We don't have free college education here for everyone since it's merit based but public education is available to everyone even if you pay next to nothing in property taxes.

People in Europe on the other hand has free opportunities when it comes to higher education including free medical school in countries like France.

If I apply from the US, gets in and my tuition is free..then it's free to me. I don't care who paid for it using whatever taxes they paid, but it's still free to me.

I'm surprised that a man of your obvious intelligence thinks that University employees (from Professors and the Provosts down to janitors) work for free, that the power companies donate electricity (without tax donations), ditto for laboratory supply houses, maintenance suppliers, etc, etc.

Do you also think that Santa Clause brings presents of Christmas morning, and that the tooth fairy puts quarters under pillow cases?
