She's fine, thanks. We cancelled it because the cost of C&C was more than 10% of the value of the car after deducting the $1K deductible.

We've got the cash to repair this one, or replace it with another used car.

Sorry to hear that but glad she's okay.

My dentist extracted my last wisdom tooth and prescribed Hydrocodone, I Googled it and it came back as Vicodin, so I was too scared to take it knowing it is highly addictive so I took regular Tylenol instead and flushed the Vicodin down the toilet. Some people who might be addicted to that stuff might be cringing right now but get that monkey off your back. I wish I never filled that Rx.

            Good for you!

Just a PSA you're not supposed to flush pills down the toilet because they get in the water system. Either take them to a prescription turn in day at a town hall near you or put in some coffee grounds and throw away :-).

Absolutely. Do not flush your old meds. Throw them out or take them to medicine collection sites. Many police departments have collection bins for this purpose.

Yes, a person CAN get addicted to Vicodin, but it shouldn't happen with the number of pills that you get for getting a wisdom tooth out. I would guess you shouldn’t have had more than 6-12 total to take. One of the secrets to NOT getting addicted to legitimate pain relievers is to take them only when needed, not more often that the prescription tells you to, and to not take them if you don't need them after the first day or so. Of course, if you have had addiction to drug problems in the first place, you shouldn't take them at all. That should be explained to the dentist and so noted in their chart on you. Also, to never get a pain script from more than one doctor. Any one put on a narcotic longer term, should also sign a drug contract with that doctor that specifies which doctor can prescribe, which pharmacy you can get them filled at as well, and be willing to take a drug test on a moment’s notice and if you break any of the rules on the contract you will lose that script for good.

I was on Vicodin for somewhere around 10 years due to severe Rheumatoid and osteoarthritis pain. Last spring my doctor moved away and that is when we found that none of the doctors within one hospital’s umbrella would prescribe narcotics at all! And in their not prescribing they didn’t seem in the least concerned with any withdrawal problems a patient could or would have. “not their problem”. And the phrase I seem to be hearing far too often from medical personal “I don’t feel comfortable doing that!” Since when is it more important for a doctor/pharmacist, fill in the blank to feel, comfortable when they are supposed to be working at getting their patient comfortable, at least that is what I learned in nursing school. I found another doctor under the other hospitals umbrella that was willing to work with me on trying to keep my pain in check. But even she wanted me off the Vicodin. So, I went off without a bit of trouble, other than the pain issue. However, at the point I was taken off, as I mentioned I had been on it for years, but had never taken all the ones that I was allowed during the day and it took me 2 to 2 ½ months to finish a one-month script. I was not of the addicted mindset, I never got a buzz of any kind and I have no clue why people would take these meds when they didn’t need it. I am still on narcotic pain relievers so that it suppresses my pain enough that I can function during the day instead of being curled up in a ball of pain. Narcotics give me what they are supposed to, pain relief so that I have a quality of life, period.

I say these things to let the ‘other’ side speak out. Those of us that are truly in need of these medications long term should be allowed access to them to help us LIVE not get addicted. So many folks that are working so hard and diligently to stop access to these meds are not medical personnel at all. They are congressmen and senators and other such workers that apparently have no knowledge of what having a severely painful chronic pain condition is like for some of us. And unless you have a problem with addictive behavior in the first place, you shouldn’t have any problems with the small enough dose you are prescribed for a tooth extraction. And yes, please don’t put them in our water supply.

I realie that many who have not been in my shoes would be tut tutting at what I have to say, but some medical problems need a pain control med. Doing assorted pain control things such as ice or heat, etc. don't do enough to give any quality of life or abiity to function not for a long term problem.

Our A/C has died. Time to replace it. We could repair it, but given our geographical location, its age, and the cost of repair vs. replacement, and the possibility of selling the house in the near future, it is time to replace. We are still in the shopping around stage, but we're looking at something around $8K.

This is not a shock. We know the estimated life expectancy of these things and we knew that our AC was nearing the end. Life happens. We have the money to replace it. So I'm not sure if it's right to call it a "loss." But still, it's $8K.

2 things I'm grateful for: 1) It's November, not August. 2) Long ago I learned the rule of thumb about planning to spend an average of 1% (or more) of a home's purchase price per year for upkeep and repairs and to start socking money away the day you close on your house.

                  But still ... It's $8K.

I nearly fainted when our furnace and they quoted me $5,800 to replace. And then a few months later, we had to replace the AC for $5,500. It is a 12 year old house. We were expecting to replace them, but it is still a shock.

We just added another unit to our second floor...which is nice so we can regulate downstairs/upstairs at different temps...but all in its going to cost around $5500 for a 2 ton unit including installation fees (and this is a family friend.)

                      Nothings cheap anymore!

After using my credit card on-line on Monday, I forgot to put my Citi Double Cash cc back in my wallet. When I ran some errands on Tuesday, I had to use a different cc, so I lost 1% in cash-back rewards (65-cents).

Ugh, awful day! Everything is always a big production for me, never just goes smoothly. Went to Schwab today to roll my kid's Roth IRA's over from Scottrade (since they are merging w/ TD Ameritrade). Well my IRA and my minor son's Custodial Roth IRA I can roll. My 2 girls who are 22 & 19, I can't roll. Why you ask? Because they are adults now and Scottrade still has their Roths listed as Custodial Accounts.

So off I go to Scottrade to get them to update into the girls names and take off custodial. Nope can't do that. Now that they have started the merger with TD Ameritrade nothing can be transfered over into a new scottrade account. I have to wait until the merger is complete, then I can have TD Ameritrade update the IRA's to make the girls owners. But then if I want to roll their IRA's to Schwab it's going to cost $75 per account to move. grrrr

I wanta know why they heck they didn't update the girls IRA's to their own individual names when they became 18!! I never knew I had to go back and do that. I opened these for them maybe 12 years ago when they had a paper route and we've not added to them in a number of years. Not a lot of money in there but if I'm reading the TD Ameritrade email right they will be subject to monthly fees..hence me wanting to roll them out.

My fault for not reading up on all of this sooner. I guess Friday was the last day new accounts could've been opened with Scottrade. I knew about it last week but thought I'd wait till this week when I was off to go in person.

Sorry for all your troubles. As for this, they certainly do not have the right to retitle accounts without authorization from the parties involved so that's not something they could do automatically. I know we had to actively make that change to my daughter's accounts when she turned 18.

Well did you get notification to do this or did you just know because this was not on my radar at all. But that's usually how I learn things. I'd of thought I'd of gotten an email or some kind of communication from them to get this done.

I don't think we got anything. I just knew when she turned 18 we needed to transfer everything into her name - bank accounts and investment account.
