I was curious how much it costs to relocate and it might give others who are considering moving a general idea how much it costs. In 2002, from Hawaii I moved to Los Angeles where I'm still residing. I paid for 1 wooden crate which had cost me $800. I had to pack it myself and unpack it myself. Curious how much other have paid for movers, DIY, or renting U-Haul, etc. I believe U-Haul charges .50 per mile plus the flat rate of $49, the miles can add up quickly for long hauls.

We relocated 100 miles in 2001 (San Francisco to Sacramento). Was a HUGE financial move though not really substantial as far as miles.
Anyway, heck if I know how much it cost. $50-ish to rent a moving truck for one day? I do remember we hired a piano mover but just happened to have a relative who needed a piano moved (from/to same cities) and we split that 50/50. (Very random). Let's say $100 total.
We've never hired anyone to do any packing/moving (piano aside), but we were in our early 20s and lived in a very small space at the time. I can't imagine we needed anything more than the smallest Uhaul. -
Cross country 2015 around $5k for our stuff in upack trailer including 1 month $300 storage fee. Costs with moving another $1k with boxes, eating out on both ends, etc. But we stripped down the amount of stuff so it was cheaper to move. I believe we had 17 linear feet which was small for a 3 bedroom condo. Also had we a job lined up we'd have sold a lot of stuff we took that really probably wasn't worth it.Comment
