Yes safe & sound. Going from a long time 2 decades with Apple to Android is a major learning curve but I'm game. Most of my contacts and pics transferred over so I'm happy about that. Still using the iPhone XR until I can install all my apps and log-ins which might take a good part of a week. My overall take thusfar though is Apple is one notch above Samsung, just my .02 cents.

Does anyone use Mercari, OfferUp, any other app/site to sell? If so, how does it compare to eBay? I currently use FB Marketplace and eBay.

I opened a Mercari account and listed one item but that's all I've done with it. My impression is that it gets phenomenally less traffic than ebay, fees are similar, and shipping is more of a pain.

I have sold many things on FBMP over the years and currently have numerous items listed. I have not gotten into shipping there, just local pick up. I generally find that something either sells right away or never. There's almost no in between. They are also overrun with scammers. If I had $1 for every "Is this available?" message I've gotten followed by no further communication when I said yes, I'd be very happy. I mainly reserve FBMP for large items I don't want to ship on ebay like furniture and such though I have sold some small lower priced collectibles too.

Looks like you're hitting your goal of $1k/mo profits! Impressive that you've been doing so well, so consistently, with only part-time focus. It's no goldmine by any stretch, but it sure ain't peanuts either.

Thanks. My thoughts exactly. I'm not looking for it to be a full time job or replace my regular income. I just want it to be something fun that I really enjoy doing that also generates a decent monetary return. I'm hoping that starting next week when my work hours cut in half or more, I'll be able to spend a little more time on ebay and hit that 1K/mo figure even easier.

The income potential on ebay is really limited only by how much time and effort somebody wants to devote to it. If I wanted to make 50K/yr, I absolutely could. If I worked it as if it was a 40-hr/wk job, I'm sure I'd make at least that much and probably more. That just isn't my goal.

Year to date, I've done about $8,300 in sales and $6,600 pre-tax profit.

For a side hustle to make $50k seems insane. Of course I also know people doing it for 6 figure incomes

It’s really not hard. I sell mostly lower priced items. Most under $50 and almost all under $100. But some sellers deal in more costly items. If you’re selling items that average maybe $250, sell just 20 items a month and you’re grossing 60K.

It's crazy that you can make that much not selling only 20 items and making $5k/month = $60k/year

There are people that just buy and sell guitars or car stuff or electronics or other higher dollar items. If you have a good niche there is unlimited money to be made.

Does eBay offer more insurance on shipping than USPS offers? I'll be shipping an iPhone XR soon (highest bud currently is $149 which I think will go higher) in a small flat rate USPS box. It used to insure $50 long ago. Today I checked and it insures $100. I would like to pay for an additional $49 insurance or more but not sure if eBay offers it on the "print shipping label."

Yes, you can add additional insurance if you’d like.

Thanks, good to know. I was thinking of instead of printing out the eBay label at home, to go to USPS and pay the higher shipping cost and in addition buying more insurance in-person at USPS. Printing at home is a lot more convenient and purchasing additional insurance from home.

Yeah you never want to buy your eBay postage at the post office or UPS directly because of the discount for doing it online.
