  • Dominos Pizza giving you a $3 "tip" for doing carryout

From now until mid May, Dominos Pizza is going to give you $3 credit (good toward your a visit the following week) every time you order online and choose carryout instead of delivery. This is, of course, due to the labor shortage and not having enough drivers.

This is actually good news for us because we already do carryout when we order Dominos. The delivery service around here is awful. It routinely takes 50-60 minutes for us to get food from them by which time it's cold. If I pick it up, it only takes about 20-25 minutes roundtrip from the time I leave the house until I get back with the food. In fact, I drive to the store, place the order once I'm in their parking lot, wait a few minutes for them to make it, and then get it as soon as it comes out of the oven. It's still nice and hot when I get it back home.

    * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

For points, which you can translate into extra bucks.

Nah. Can't be bothered with that stuff. Plus I order in the app so there's no paper receipt. How do those programs handle those transactions. Do you send a screenshot?

Pretty much, Ibotta, Fetch and the rest all let you take a snapshot of the receipt with your smartphone and then upload it to the app. The technology is pretty well worked out.

So, they have included an automatic delivery charge into their price, and refund it if you opt to carry it out?

Pizza has really thin margins. That money has to be coming from somewhere…ingredients, size, flavor.

I’ll eat Dominos in a pinch…But rarely do, since there are some fantastic local places. I try to do local first. They use real meats, 100% real cheese, and their dough doesn’t taste like it’s shares a mother with cardboard

              History will judge the complicit.

If I really want Dominos I have to do carryout, so this is good news for me. The closest location is too far away to deliver.
I do have some really good local shops, so I normally go there, but I'll keep this promo in mind next time I get hungry for pizza.

Oooh, I wish more places would do this.

I really dislike food delivery. We always pick up our own pizzas (or food anywhere). I don't care much for takeout either, but pizza is an exception. (It's the only thing that's pretty consistently hot and good re: takeout).

Being born and raised in Philly, I'm used to good pizza. The Philly/NJ/NY area has the best. Still, I occasionally like Dominos. It's different but good in its own way. We don't get it often. Maybe once every month or two. This promo won't really help us much because I think the credit is only good the following week, though I did say to DW that I could just go back the next week and get a pizza and bring it home and freeze it.

We do pizza & smoothies almost every Friday. Depending on how busy we are, we'll often get Domino's because it's relatively inexpensive, tastes fine, and is on the way home for me... So it's easy to order as I'm leaving my office, pick up as it comes out of the oven 10-15min later, and bring it home. So we'll likely get plenty of benefit from this, if it does in fact last through May.

Here's their official announcement. It runs now through May 22, 2022.

Same here. I generally dislike delivery for anything, because it's typically an excess/unnecessary cost, and I really hate asking someone else to do something that I can easily do myself (let alone pay too much for them to do it for me).

My wife and I differ on this point. I hate delivery because it takes way longer and the food isn't as fresh and hot when it arrives, plus it costs extra for that privilege. So when I'm home and we order out, I always pick it up. I make sure to get there before the food would be ready so that as soon as it's done, I get it and head home. If she and DD order when I'm at work, she'll get delivery.

We're lucky to have 4 restaurants we like very close to our house so the food is always hot and good when I get back.
