That's awesome. When I was a bachelor a buddy and I rented an old farm house solely heated by wood. It was a lot of work.
Don't remember where, but somehow we got ahold of some big large lump coal. Could stick a hunk of that the size of a football or two in the buck stove and it would hold a warm fire a whole lot longer than wood.
Wouldn't mind having a pickup load of the stuff.

You are correct, coal has been demonized, but it's still the cheapest electricity we are going to get and the US has a big supply of it.
When the wind isn't turning the windmills, when the sun isn't shining on the solar fields, when the water isn't flowing hard enough to crank the turbines, you still need coal, nuke or natural gas to keep things going.
Coal, nuke or nat gas is probably charging most electric cars and powering the plants where solar panels and windmills are being manufactured.

We heat our cabin with a wood burner.
I love the wood heat, but you are correct.
It is a ton of work.
A good part of my summer is spent cutting and stacking firewood.

I do have some soft coal there, and yes, it is nice to throw a lump in at night before bed.
It burns about twice as long as wood, and it lets us sleep a little longer before having to tend to the stove.
