Not a fan of the Patriots, but I do think he is the best quarterback in history.

But that game is a prime example of how every single play matters and can make a difference. The Falcons were one play away from attempting a field goal and likely putting the game out of reach.

Be grateful the Falcons choked in the 4th quarter giving you the 5th.

Patriot's Edelman's catch where the Falcon's defender tipped the ball in the air and Edelman caught the ball just before hitting the ground was a game saver for the Pat's.

I agree. And that was a pass that should have been intercepted. One of a few passes the Falcons failed to capitalize on.

I am in a neutral football market watching a local sports show. Of course the #1 topic tonight is the Super Bowl. All of the local sports talk guys are giving the Patriots credit for being the great team that they are. However, they are also all talking about the Falcons choking. The biggest (well deserved) criticism was the 3rd and 1 play call to have the QB drop back 15 yards for a pass WHEN you are in in field goal range.

It is hard to imagine an adult born in the U.S. didn't know the Super Bowl is for football.
Both my husband and I avoid watching sports at all costs... totally mind numbing to us. I did grow up in the Midwest, so I am aware that there are two big sports events people go crazy over... the super bowl and the world series. I never really know which is for which sport. Neither of those names really indicate which sport it is for. Add that to the fact that I actively avoid televised sports, and there ya have it. It would be absolutely impossible for me to care less about these sports, so I don’t see why I should know what the names of their season ending games are.

I know hundreds of people that have zero interest in sports. Never met a single person that didn't know the Super Bowl was for football.

I knew when they scored the touchdown that they would convert. And when they won the coin toss, I knew they would win the game.

As a Patriots fan, I am sure you are happy with the win no matter how it played out. As a sports fan that doesn't support either team, I would have rather seen the champion win the game with dominant play. As opposed to watching a team fall apart and hand the victory over. Atlanta choked. That was the theme at the convenience store this morning, and so far here in the office.

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that last Patriots kick off in the 4th quarter reached the end zone. With zero timeouts left and less than a minute to go, the return guy brings the ball out and doesn't even reach the 20. Sure there is always a chance he could have broke one, but there was a penalty on the 2 point conversion making it a short kickoff. Just not a good set up for a big return. So he wasted time off the clock and made the field even longer.

It wasn't talked about late in the game by the announcers, but the Falcons had a couple of offensive lineman go down and had to be pulled off the field. They were so enamored with the Patriots making it a game that they never said if those lineman sat out their one required play and made it back in.

Injuries happen to all teams and can happen at any time. Losing a starter on the O-line has ruined seasons for many teams over the years. Just curious if they made it back into the game or not. Would help explain Ryan getting no time to throw late in the game.

Well, now you have. You can check that one off your list.

Still, it's kind of hard to avoid things like the Superbowl because every store has a sale, supermarkets have big displays, electronics retailers have their biggest TV sales in the weeks before the game, it's all over the news on TV and newspapers, even some games I play on my phone had special promotions tied to the game and the games themselves have absolutely nothing to do with sports (like a slot machine game, for example). Any product or company that sponsors or advertised during the game puts the Superbowl logo on their product whether it's a bag of chips or a bottle of Pepsi or whatever.

The fact that you've managed to completely avoid every bit of that promotion for your entire life is incredible.

I dislike advertising for the most part. I use an adblocker on my computer, and I don't tend to buy the types of products that advertise for sports (like sodas and whatnot). I do read the papers (Wall Street Journal and local paper), but the second I see anything about sports I mentally block it out.

I also wouldn't agree that I have avoided it for my entire life; as I said, I grew up in the midwest. I remember my family always getting together for the various big games, which I would avoid by going into other rooms to play. I could probably name one or two football teams and maybe one baseball team.

Have I mentioned that I despise televised sports?

I suspect that every grocery store in the U.S. had at least one display dedicated to the Superbowl.

As soon as I walked into my favorite grocery store, I came across a huge display of cupcakes, cookies, etc. all decorated for the game.
