  • Walmart to offer Free 2 Day Shipping.

For orders over $35. Over 2 million items qualify.

Will you consider shopping at Walmart more often (or start if you don't already), or will this just move some of your in store shopping online?

It's odd but as much as we shop at Amazon (lots), we do virtually no other online shopping. If we need something at Target, we drive over to Target. If we need something at WalMart, we drive over to WalMart. It never even occurs to us to go to their websites and order online. We just don't mentally think of them in the same way that we think of an online retailer like Amazon.

So I don't think this will change anything for us.

The percentage of our online shopping over the years has been minute. The majority of those purchases have been bigger ticket items where we were used the internet to search for the best deal. Some of those purchases were site to store scenarios. We have already made the decision to purchase, so just made sense to order and then pick it up on our next trip.

I think this news will lead me to consider it more often, but I don't think it will lead to a drastic change. If I decide to give it a try and the item I want doesn't qualify, then it would probably turn me off from trying again.

This just goes to show how much amazon is cutting into their profits. Walmart to offer free 2 day shipping without any sort of membership (like prime.)

It wont get us to shop more at walmart...thats for sure. Unless I need something immediately...ill just order it from amazon...assuming the item is priced right. The last thing I bought in a store that I could have purchased from amazon was a logitech tv remote...I went to bestbuy and price matched amazons price.

We shop on Amazon a lot for a number of reasons: price, convenience, selection. But a big reason we spend so much there is that a number of the professional surveys I do pay me in Amazon gift cards, so we always have a healthy balance on our Amazon account. I just checked and at the moment, we have $654.04 in credit. That fact alone keeps me coming back.

A few times in the past, I've waited till the last minute to buy something only to realize that the free Amazon standard shipping won't get it to me in time. (I don't have Prime.) Invariably, I can find the item on Walmart.com, but they don't carry it in stores, so I can't use in store pickup. Then I end up buying on Amazon anyway and either paying for more expensive shipping or just waiting longer. This change sounds like it would solve that exact problem, so Walmart will probably be picking up some extra business from me.

You would think I could just go to physical stores to pick up last minute items. But, I always seem things that are just a little too specific to find in stores. I think online shopping has spoiled me.

they're basically doing it to compete with amazon, who is pretty much taking over for online sales. One of the complaints for amazon (especially without prime) is that shipping can be pretty slow.

I think that's true for many of us, which is why Amazon is thriving and bricks and mortar stores are struggling. Why do I need to drive to a store, park, search around the store and hope they have what I'm looking for and for a decent price, then stand in line to check out, and drive back home, when with a couple of clicks, I can find virtually anything on Amazon, usually at the best price around, and have it delivered to me in 1-2 days for free?

Shipping without prime is slow. I dont have prime and we have around $50 in gift card money on my account. The last few things we purchased was through my friends account who has prime.

I bought a xmas gift at Target in December. Online it was $9, in store it was $18 (or so)... they gave me a discount but they wouldn't match their own online price. It was close enough in price so I bought it. Otherwise I would have had to buy online and pick up in store - while standing there in the store.

That type of situation is so frustrating.

Walmart started to get more of my online business even before they offered the 2 day shipping. I've had so many problems with Amazon in the past 6 months that I decided not to renew Prime. I removed my charge information months ago like I was told to, and they even sent an email stating that Prime wouldn't renew because my credit card info couldn't be processed. I checked my Visa statement 2 days after the email, and there was a charge for Prime! Not even an apology from customer service, just like there was no explanations or apologies for the used items that were supposed to be new, the four orders with sellers that turned out to be fakes (customer service actually tried to blame me for those), the wrong items sent that they wanted me to return and then reorder at a higher prices, and so on. Plus, I was buying way too many impulse items with prime.

Oddly enough, right after I canceled prime again, many of my reviews disappeared and my ranking slipped a few hundred points even though I had more helpful votes. So screw them.

Wow. Just joined Prime this year. Sure hope I don't encounter any of those issues.

                            I call it supersnailmail shipping.

And I'm glad walmart is competing with amazon on this, and their free shipping is at a lower threshold than amazon's.

What's Amazon's minimum for free shipping now? It used to be $25. Then they raised it to $35. What is it now? We have Prime so I don't know.
