    +1

I don't know why people spend so much on phones, especially Apple products.

It is very nice to have all of your technology - phone, tablet, laptop, desktop, MP3 player all function seamlessly together because they are all made by the same company and running on interconnected operating systems. I have an iPhone and iMac. DW has an iPhone and iPad. DD has an iPhone, iPod, and MacBook Air. They all play together very nicely.

I understand things within the apple ecosystem function very well together. Of course, that's apple's strategy - get you to keep buying their products.

Nevertheless, it's a steep price to pay.

I see these prices posted and I can't wrap my head around it.

Even though some of my phone purchases have been tied to a contract, I have never purchased the newest model.

I think what helps me with this situation is that I am not a huge tech buff.

I don't buy the newest model either, but sometimes I wonder if I'm not the one doing it wrong. When the iPhone 6 came out, I know many people who bought it and sold their iPhone 5 for MORE than they paid for the 6. I hung on to my 5 instead. Who got the better deal there? Me, who still has the old 5, or my friends who got the newer technology for free?

I just received a text the other day from Verizon telling me that I'm eligible for an upgrade.

I typically keep my phones until they die, so I'll be hanging onto my current phone for now.

You make a good point, but for some reason I have never felt good about selling my old phones. I think it is in large because I am not a tech buff and worry about how I describe and rate the phone. Since I am pretty basic with my phone use, is there a flaw with my phone that I don't notice that the buyer might get ticked about?

My DW heard (maybe last year) that there was a growing demand for old flip phones. Phones carriers don't want to offer because they are always pushing for people to upgrade to the latest and greatest. But despite a demand for these phones, I have 5 or 6 of them siting in a drawer.

With it being a paid holiday for me, it would be an ideal time for me to put them on eBay. But I think that is a 1% chance at best.

Depending on the carrier, those old phones may not be of any value. We're with AT&T and my mom recently had to replace her flip phone because they were discontinuing support of the network it used (sorry, I don't remember the exact terminology). She was able to get a new flip phone that is almost identical to the old one but works on the current system.

If the old phones work, I'd suggest donating them. Places like women's shelters often collect them as they can be used to call 911 even without service. I donated about 10 phones earlier this year.

I'm hard on my phones with kids. So I stick to cheap android smartphones that work great. I'm on a nexus now but I usually get a Moto G or Moto E. Works fine.

I've found and forgive me for insulting people, a lot of technologically challenged people use apple because it's seamless. People who can easily manage computers find it simple to use an android and go back and forth between everything.

I use an android and have our desktop, three different cell phones, three tablets, three laptops, kids kindles all synced up and managed on our accounts. DH puts on my google login and off he goes with his work phone and home cell phones for pokemon go for two kids. We flip back and forth.

Now if I could stop him from buying new stuff. But now he's got a great excuse of a job that requires different platforms and he gets it from work. So now he's got way to many toys. I get all old hand me downs.

But I find apple products nice but very pricey.

For as much as I use my phone I really didn't mind spending top dollar for it, I really can't think of anything I own that I use more. When I checked out the iPhones at the Apple store I was pretty impressed with it's speed and I was sold

                        You guys will love this.

I have been waiting and waiting for the new google phones, now known as the Google Pixel. They were more than I was hoping for but out of excitement I jumped onto Project Fi and immediately preordered one on payments 0% for 2 years. It's mixed into the bill so I thought, eh..what's 20$ more a month for a high end phone. I have a Nexus 5x, and I had the 128gb version of the Pixel on preorder. I'm a tech buff but rarely buy new because I can't justify the price. Well, when the stupid wore off of me I realized I was going to be paying 800$ (after tax) for a phone.....

                        I canceled the preorder. lol

I also have an iPhone 6 through work. I do not like it. iOS isn't bad but I prefer android, especially on a phone. I have an iPad(got it off craigslist) and think apple has the best tablets. I have used many cheaper (one not so cheap) android tablets and got rid of them all. They sucked.

As for apple in general, the best way is to upgrade often and sell the old because they do sell very well. My friend does that with his iphones yearly. It's a hefty first investment but works out well after that.

The thing that makes apple products so valuable from a hardware standpoint is that they are updated for a long time. So, you get the new features and it makes even the older devices feel newer still. With android, it's all about power and tricks. Each manufacturer has to add their own flavor to the phone to make it unique and then usually only gives it one OS update. Things get outdated quickly, where as apple keeps their devices relevant longer. There is also no competition for iOS devices since only apple produces them, so there is very high demand. With Android, there are many, many devices to choose from so the prices drop fast once used.

Overall I don't like Apple and their idea of "the only way is our way," but they do have some good products.

If you want a decent Android smartphone, I personally believe that the Moto G is one of the best bangs for the buck on the market. Mind you, you can find Cheaper, but not necessarily better working.

Are you me? Or are you just psychic? The answer is obviously Pixel.

I have a G and my wife has an E. Excellent phones that can be had for under $100.

lol I'm still tempted to go back and preorder, but my wife was already ready to kill me when she found out how much the phone was. She was ok with me upgrading but didn't know the phone was so much. She thought it was maybe half of that. haha

                                I still want one
