  • Frugal shopping dilemma today

For years, I have bought most of my casual and work clothes at the Van Heusen outlet stores. They recently announced that they are closing all stores and moving to online only sales. Our local store is closing in late December, so I headed over there today to stock up on the standard items I buy there, especially pants.

Everything was 80% off, so the pants I usually pay $25-30 for are now $12. The shirts I usually pay $15-20 for are $6 or $8.

The dilemma was twofold. Due to Covid, the dressing rooms are not open (which I totally don't understand but that's beside the point). And because the store is closing, all sales are final.

In addition to the pants I normally buy, there were some other pants I definitely could have used, especially at 80% off, but I wasn't willing to take the chance that I wouldn't like how they fit or felt when I got them home. So I had a great opportunity to buy some really nice stuff at a really deep discount but couldn't take advantage of it.

I still walked out of there having purchased 7 pairs of pants and 3 dress shirts and my total was just under $106 so I can't complain about that at all.

Go back wearing a thin short pants (ie, biker shorts) and try on the new pants over the thin shorts on the spot.

My wife also suggested that I could have taken a chance and bought one pair, gone to the nearby restroom and put them on, and gone back and bought more if I liked them.

Might be worth taking a chance at 80% off.
If they don't fit you could probably sell them on Ebay or Facebook Marketplace for more than you bought them for.

this. I would have suggested something like that. But at the same time I guess you unlike the rest of us wearing super comfy yoga pants.
