I hadn't worn a watch in a decade until Smartwatches came around. I just used my phone for time, and at first smartwatches just seemed like a novelty to me. I mean, they looked cool but 300$!? No thanks. Until one weekend I realized I missed a bunch of important phone calls and text messages. I decided a watch might be a good investment after all. I found the Asus zenwatch 2, which retails half the price of the cheapest Apple watch. I have worn it every day since. I have also missed very few calls or texts. It is great to not have to pull out your phone every time you just need to see what time it is, see if someone texted you, or buzz for a reminder to get something on the way home. It isn't necessary, but for me it is incredibly useful.
As a side note, the zenwatch (And apple for that matter) are square and look more techish. I am backing a kickstarter this month for a Ticwatch 2. It looks like a traditional round watch but is a smartwatch with a touch slider on the side. Awesome concept.Attached FilesEverything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you're stupid and make bad choices.

I also run, and I don't carry a phone (firstly, there's no pockets); I don't even carry my keys. In fact, if you want to steal a car, just go to the track, lots of keys (including mine are on the stands). There are joggers (rolling road blocks : ) on the track who do carry stuff; but they aren't really active.

All the time. There are more times when I don't have my smart phone on me than I do. I'm not allowed to have it with me at either of my jobs, I don't want to carry it when I walk the dog, lots of my clothes don't have pockets, etc.
And besides, why would I want to hit buttons and swipe to see the time when with a watch all I have to do is turn my wrist? Also I find that checking in on my watch helps me keep track of the passage of time rather than simply knowing what time it is at the moment.
Perhaps the lack of watch wearing explains why so many of my co-workers are late coming back from their breaks?

The other thing that I realized a while ago is that there is almost always at least one clock within view. Right now, as I type this message, I can see 3 clocks - one on my computer screen, one on my office phone display, and a wall clock hanging outside the room I'm sitting in.
At home, there is a clock in every room where I spend any amount of time. It might be on the wall, the phone, the computer, the cable box, the VCR, the bedside table, etc.
The only time I really need to look at my cellphone to see the time is if I'm out somewhere.Steve
